109 block is the stock 3.8 block that came in our cars

and D5 is the stock converter that came in our cars also

hope that helps

Lightbulb

To further clarify, 109 is actually the last three digits of the block casting number, found on the side of the block. It is vissible from underneath the car.

The D5 is a stamping found all around the perimeter of the stock torque converter top. Various two digit codes helped identify the many internal converter configurations for different vehicle applications. Word to the wise though: Converters are often cut open and reworked so the two letter code may not mean anything at that point.

Well,

The only dumb question is a question that isn't asked!!

If a tree falls in the woods and no one hears it, does it make a sound?

why do people drive on parkways and park on driveways?

Why do they call them hot water heaters if hot water doesn't have to be heated??
