Body Cast ?

Has anyone ever been in a body cast or had a child in one?

My #4 son fell about 7 weeks ago in the backyard. TWISTING & Braking his FUMER bone (Thigh) .

Poor kid has been stuck in this rig for 6/7weeks now.
Supposed to come off this friday if the bone growth density is
complete.
He learned very quick to navagaite around the house with commando crawl or actual rolling. We gave him a skateboard which he loves to swim style move with arms only.

no body cast but....................

One of the kids has two rods installed in his femur. First as a result of a fall at the Boston Museum of Science. two weeks in Childrens Hospital with months of rehab. He broke the same femur again long with breaking the 10mm rod two years later. They reinstalled a 13mm rod, similar rehab involved with that so been there done that...unfortunately Drew

Yeah that 1st week he was miserable.

When I picked him up to bring to emergency room the bone twisted out giving a huge lump of skin sticking out. GROSS!

Dathan,Thanks about feeling

reading that made me sick to my stomach. i have a Rod and 3 screws in my left tibia, it was a perdy complicated break, it hurts every day no matter what i do. i have been lucky i have not broken my femur. i know sevral people that have broken them and its unlike breaking any other born in the body. your never quite the same. good thing they are both young. make sure they go to a GOOD therapist, and make sure your ortho know what you want to happen with recovery. DO NOT be happy just getting the kid walking. make sure they, they are athletic (if they are). change docs and or therapist if you are at all unhappy. i made that mistake and it cost me a track scholorship.

Broke my femur riding a atv 3 years ago, takes alot of force to break that bone considering its the strongest in your body.

Yes, I was in a body cast two different times about 35 years ago. I had to have my hip joint fused together (before artificial hips). I was in it the first time for 7 months. It didn't mend properly, so I had to go back in it for another 6 1/2 months. It went from my chest all the way to my toes on one leg, and to my knee on the other. I couldn't get out of bed at all. My Dad would borrow a station wagon to take me to the doctor in Houston. He would get 3 guys to load me up in there like a log. It made me very thankful when I got out of there!

Well, if the wify had just let you get rid of those trees he wouldn't have tripped...
I was luck not to have to be in a cast. I have a pin in my femur that goes in to the cartlage. It pulled away when I was teen so the had to put that in to realine the bone and cartlage. He looks like he's raring to go. Hope that's the last of his big injuries.

X2 here. Mine jumped off the top bunk(even after the wife repeatedly told them not to) on to a bean bag the day before new years eve. Unfortunately the last time he missed with one of the knees and landed it on the floor(carpet with concrete underneath). When we got to the emergency room the nurse insinuated we were abusing our son and I thought the wife was going to abuse her. They exrayed it and the bone was beside itself. They took him to Lubbock(2 hours away) to a specialist where they operated and inserted the rods. He never even got a hard cast, just one of those nylon and velcro jobs. He was up and around on a "old people" walker and after a few weeks used crutches.

Today we are going to Lubbock to have the staples removed as they removed the rods 10 days ago.

Good luck with yours and get the budget in order. Even with the insurance it cost us quite a bit of coin.
