Late 1-2 shift ?

My tranny was re-done about a year ago, and I probably have 30-40 passes on it, mostly in the low 12's or down to the mid-low 11's (since the rollbar install). Previously, both my 1-2 shift and the 2-3 shift would consistently happen @ 5150 rpm, according to Directscan.

Now for some strange reason the 1-2 is all over the place, once shifting as high as 5800, and other times around 5300-5600.

The highest I've seen the 2-3 was 5225 so it seems to be okay.

The tranny shop took it apart last week and said there is absolutely nothing wrong with it, no wear on the clutches or servo or anything else for that matter. So what could be casuing this and how do I fix it?

a leak in the governor circuit, shift valve sticking in the valve body ,governor problem,or a loose valve body sounds like the most likely.causes.a pressure problem would register as slipping ,and since thats not the case it should be easy to locate.

Question What was temp?

Could the converter be producing more heat thus causing inconsistant fluid viscosity causing it to be that inconsistant?
Just a thought. Govenor would play a part because of this. Has the pressure been cked at this time in the trans? That could also play a part as they do not shift well with air in the circuit.
Just a couple off the cuf thoughts...

I would ck with a presure gauge , next step..

Not sure what the temp was, but the fluid was brand new since we had just installed your shallow pan a week or two earlier.

Pressure has not been checked at this point, but since I just broke the forward drum/input shaft the other day I won't be able to check that for awhile now. Just hoping to give my tranny guy some tips on what to look for since he'll be going into the tranny anyways.

Thanks for the ideas.

Clayton

tell him to read the footprint on the valve body gaskets to verify no crossleaking.
