Question Need a complete list of what it takes to install a TH400 in a TR

I know, I know....why you ask? Well first and foremost I am getting the tranny at a reasonable price, 2nd cannot afford at this time to rebuild the 200r4. I also did the search on here last night and found several posts but some conflicting statements. Some said driveshaft must be modfied, some said it didn't...well does it or doesn't it? Some say the mount and x member have to be modified some say it doesn't...I ask again..does it or doesn't it? I also need to know what else needs to be done such as torque convertor(part number if possible), flexplate(part number if possible. I also seen a yoke(I know this has to be changed to a 400 piece)on ebay and it had a damper on it, could I use that or just get a regular yoke from a TH-400? Sorry for all the ?'s and long post but I was left very after my search last night. I just need a driveable car!! Thanks guys!!!

Stock driveshaft needs to be shortened and the yoke changed. Good idea just to get a new shaft made. Local driveline company did mine forless then $300 with a new yoke. Stock crossmember will work. The bracket that goes between the trnas and the mount will work if you slot the holes. You'll need a new mount. HR Parts sells one for a 400 or you can use a stock one for a 400. Flex plate will work. You'll need a new convertor. I don't know if the stock shifter can be made to work or not. I had a B&M in mine when i switched. If this is a mild car or one that doesn't get races a lot you'll have more money in changing to a 400 than you will in rebuilding your 200 unless you go all billet parts in it.

Steve....

Thanks for the info. That's one reson why I posted this...to see the price difference. The problem around here is no transmission shop knows the TR's 200-4r's. Oh, what convertor will I need a 400 convertor? If so the one I am looking at comes with a 2400 stall. Are the bolt patterns on the convertors different? Thanks again

Forgot to ask....which flexplate will work, the 400 or the one attached to the engine with the 2004r? May try to install a front pump if it's a task I can do before I make my mind up.

The stock shifter can be made to work but you will have to give up being able to manually shift into 1st gear. Is this a stock engine ? 2400 stall sounds low. My advise is don't switch to the 400 unless this car is going to live at the drag strip.
