Please don't laugh........
Well first of all,I just wanted to say that you have a great site going on here.I have a 86 Cutlass Salon with a 307 backed by a 200-4R.My question is,is the PTs shift kit really worth it for me?The mods I plan on making are:duals, and maybe an intake and carb.I would really love for the car to chirp the tires during the 1-2 shift, but would the 307's low torque number's even allow that?

Thanks Black Box,as a side note, I just found a 403 for the same price as the 350($250).What do you think would make a better street motor,I want gobs of low end torque with good midrange horsepower.I heard that the 403's aren't that strong in the bore area and in factcan only be bored .020 over, and that also makes them prone to overheating.I plan to keep it stock at first, then add a set of headers,an RPM intake,a mild cam(maybe if it doesn't cost too much to get it installed)and a Edelbrock carb.Would a stock bottom end be okay with this?I don't wanna run 11's or nuthin,I jus dont wanna be embarressed by a mid 90's Z28(plus kill mustangs and monte ss's).Thanks in advance for any insight that you can give.

Well dude to be perfectly honest I am not the most well-versed person when it comes to Olds engines. The best person to talk to about them would be Joe Mondello, the Olds GOD. www.mondellotwister.com
Yeah I have heard that the 403 is not the best engine to build from a performance standpoint, what with the thin walls and 'webbed' mains, but with what you're talking about, it should be OK, as long as the engine isn't worn out right from the get-go. If I had the choice, I would go for the 403. More cubic inches=more power potential....that is, unless it's turbocharged! ![]() Good Luck Steve Last edited by Black Box : July 15th, 2002 at 08:02 PM. |
