Another gusher tale

Trans history: BRF 2004R D5 rebuilt and shift kit installed at 98K just before I bought the car in 1999. Added in-line trans cooler, 700R4 TCC solenoid & lock-up switch in 2002. Lots of full-throttle runs since then with no problems.

Fast-forward to this weekend; tweaking TT chip and launch testing @ 5 lbs. boost off the foot brake w/TCC Unlocked in Drive. 2 launches of 150 feet, no problems.
3rd launch, water temp 200 degrees, Unlocked, Drive, full throttle into 3rd gear, @ 90 MPH, let off, shifted to OD & slowed, coasting at 20 MPH, car develops a huge smoke screen and Massive trans leak at the front seal.

Pulled trans and noted the converter was "sloppy" on the shaft.
Slid the conv off and found the front pump seal dangling on the input shaft.
First look and all "seems" normal at the shaft & bushing.

How do i check the bushing to see if it has "slipped"?
What are my chances of just replacing the seal and servicing the filter?

TIA - Jimmy

Pull the trans and check the bushing to make sure its down. Id suggest pulling the pump and replacing the bushing as well as drilling the pump return holes to .250. Stake and loc-tite the bushing o prevent it from walking forward. Inspect converter pump drive for problems.

Update

The bushing was still seated, fluid looked good...replaced front seal and filter. I found the "custom" cooler lines sitting against the newly installed 3" downpipe. I extended the lines and routed them away from the exhaust heat. I'm thinking the intense trans fluid & engine temps coupled with 3 back-to-back launches caused the pressure to build and blow the front seal right out of the housing. Test drive went fine, all seems well. Thanks for your input bison.
