Could this be a torque converter problem?

I've been trying to find a cure for my 2.70 60 ft times leaving at 0 boost. (can't hold any boost). Swapped out noisy powermaster with hydroboost, and I went from 1200 to 1600 rpm that I could hold on the footbrake (still no boost). Replaced front pads and rear shoes, bled the brakes 3 times with a mityvac pump, and I still cant hold any boost on the foot brake. Is it possible that the converter may be causing my problem, as in the car has the wrong converter in it? The car has had tranny work done in the past by a previous owner, but the guy I bought it from didn't know what had been done. Car has boxed uppers and lowers, rear air bags, and m/t et DRs. I think if I can launch with some boost and get a decent 60 ft time I could knock off a second in the 1/8th mile. Any help appreciated.

It does sound like your converter is too tight. Have you pulled the inspection cover to see what converter is in it? Is it a D5?

Your stock converter should go to about 2200 at zero boost/vacuum. So go even higher. You have a converter from an N/A application in the car. Changing it will be a huge performance gain.

Guys thanks for the replies. I have not pulled the inspection cover off yet because I just "knew" the problem was braking related. The TC was about the only thing left that made sense to me, but I'm fairly new to these cars so I wanted some other opinions. Good news is that I've got a new turbo ordered and I was planning on buying a TC anyways. This combo will hopefully solve both of my problems.
