Will not start off in 1st gear all of the time???

What would cause a newly rebuilt tranny to not start off in 1st gear 100% of the time from a complete stop? I noticed last night it was taking off in 2nd gear most of the time. I tried leaving hard and soft and that did not make a difference. I then pulled it back into 1st and went through the gears manually then took off from the next stop in OD....it started in 1st and shifted fine this go around. What will cause this? I need to know so i can get it back to the tranny guy ASAP.

It has a Stagerite T brake, high static first and reverse, Raybestos reds, Kolene steels, and the wide band.

TIA

Similar issue mine has although not the same. Mine, (and I've never been able to figure out why) when I put it in manual 2nd, it will start in 2nd from a stop.
Manual "any" other gear, and it will start out in 1st as it should.

If I put it in 2nd it will start out in 1st and up shift like it should. From what I can tell it's only when I put it in OD and go from there.

That'e exactly what is was I called my tranny guy who said he had shimmed up the TV valve and the Governor spring quite a bit. I loosened the TV cable a bunch and the tranny shifts perfectly!

Be careful about lowering that TV pressure too much to make up for the other calibrations. It could lower overall line pressure to the point that a friction element burns on you. Cruise your car over to your tranny guy and have him confirm your adjustment.

I lowered it just enough to drop the pressure for 1st gear to function as it should. When I checked the setting on the TV before I made the adjusment I noticed that it was in way too far. I had set it back to the firewall and only got about 3/4 throttle so it never ratcheted out to where it shuld be. It's now where it normally rides and the tranny shifts perfect. I'm going to throw some gauges on it before any track usage, but for now I feel comfortable that it's good to go.
