2004R TV Cable hole plug?
Ok, I've installed the TCI reverse pattern manual valve body in my 2004R, eliminating the need for the TV cable. I need to know the best way to plug the hole where it went. I've already tried unsuccessfully using part of a cable housing, filled with silicone and the little bastard keeps leaking. I don't want to thread the hole and use a pipe plug in it, in case I ever want to go back to the BRF valve body and TV cable setup.
Question is, does anyone know a good way to plug this leak source? Does anybody make a SOLID plug that can be installed in this hole without screwing up the case for possible future use with a TV cable setup? (There isn't enough room for the TV cable housing in the tranny tunnel on my car anyway, hence, a plug is needed.) I have access to CNC milling equipment, and could easily make something solid the same shape as the cable housing, but don't want to "re-invent the wheel" if someone already has something suitable available. Any advice is welcome, because Royal Purple Max ATF is expensive to be dripping and it's messy as hell too. BTW, the TCI manual valve body works perfectly, no check balls, no TV cable, and I can chirp every gear change 1 through 4 simply by staying on the gas when shifting. (Keep in mind, this tranny is behind a Nissan L28 Turbo in an 82 Datsun 280ZXT, (custom bellhousing and flexplate adapters made) and I'm using the B&M Quicksilver ratchet shifter with a Dakota Digital shifter position indicator mounted in the dash...sweet setup and a FAR cry from the stock Nissan crapola tranny) Thanks in advance for the help. Anybody use this?
L. I. B., Lookie at what I just found, after looking all over the web all day.
![]() TV Plug - listed as a "Hot New Product" in their online catalog. Anybody use one of these yet and if so, how is it retained? I see no hole on any side of it to put the bolt back in to hold it there. Perhaps the bolt just covers part of the rather large lip on it. Seems like it would work. (Don't ya just hate when people answer their own questions?) Thanks for you indulgence. Warren Last edited by Warren : May 6th, 2008 at 05:43 PM. |

Hey Warren, what shifter are you gonna use? I haven't found any aftermarket shifters that have both a 4 speed gate and reverse pattern...
Keep us posted on how it behaves, I'm not to thrilled about the loss of engine braking even though I'm in the flatlands.

B&M Quicksilver Ratchet shifter Model #80683. I modified the tranny tunnel and mounted it in the stock shifter housing of my 82 Datsun 280ZXT. The window will read wrong, but I'm not using that anyway (since the picture was taken, I've made a brushed stainless plate to cover the openings on the stock housing). I have already mounted and used the shifter successfully and for the indicator, I'm using the Dakota Digital single digit readout mounted on my dash...works well (showing the red P between the speedometer and tach). 4 speeds and the indicator reads correctly PRN12D0. The attached pictures were taken before I finished putting the interior back together, so excuse the messes.
![]() ![]() BTW, it behaves VERY WELL...a far cry from a stock 3 speed automatic. Just have to remember to downshift it manually when I come to a stoplight...those OD starts are slooooooooow. Now if I can get the damn thing to quit puking tranny fluid...either coming from the pan gasket or the vent, because everything else is bone dry. Hope it helps. Nice setup! The shifter looks 'shorter' than most I've seen (I like that!), does it "sit on top" of the tunnel or is it sunk down inside some?
Does the cable exit front or rear? How's the car drive on decel? I understand there's no engine braking...

You're right on all 3 accounts. It does sit about 3" down into the tunnel, in a custom made box. You can see the opening in front of it 2 top pictures. The shifter was not modified at all.
The cable exits the box from the front, through the box. The welded in box and tunnel were sealed with urethane windshield from the underside after installation. No engine braking is also correct, but I don't mind it a bit...that's what my brakes are for anyway. Makes it even more fun to drive. |

Just an update of the finished product
Just for kicks, and to revive a dying thread, here's an update picture of the final installation of the shifter.
