Threaded shifter plunger

Guys, I'm installing one of these shifters and when I pressed my plunger down the steel threaded part is jamming where the plastic piece screws on and doesn't always want to come up.

I have been able to free it up but it seems it's stuck now. I've shot WD-40 and white lithium down there to try and free it up too.
Any ideas? I'm using a small screw driver to wiggle it and it did free it up before.

OK, I've taken the console out and noticed that the 1/16" plunger height is too much and forces the locking rectangle locking pin to go too far down and it gets out of it's slot. Here's a pic in a sec.

So I made the adjustment on the plunger height until it worked. So much for instructions. Car to car may differ.
