Vigilante Converter: Special fitting for upper cooler line?

Hi all,

I've been having trouble with my Vigilante locking up. I have the trans out of the car and want to make sure I follow Precision's instructions exactly when I re-install it. The big steps are: install the pump tube, remove the checkball at the end of the shaft (optional) and to "remove upper cooler line fitting and replace it with the fitting provided". It goes on to say that "This is done to retain pressure in the converter.". I'm pretty sure that when I first got the converter that there was no fitting in the box. As a result, when I get my converter back from Precision I'm pretty sure there will not be a fitting in the box.

Anyone know what this special fitting is? Do I need it?

Thanks,
Jim

Its a restrictor that many say not to run. DonWG had a thread that discussed this in detail. Search under his handle to find it.

fitting

I have been running the PI lock up convertor since they first came out. I DO run the restrictor fitting and have had 0 problem from using it. Sad to say that the last convertor I recieved from them (to install in a friends car) they left the fitting out of box. I call to ask if they had changed their view as to whether to run the restrictor fitting or not. "Yes, it needs to be in there". Had to beg for it--I could have put a set screw in the hole and drilled it out to I beileve --.085 and I will next time.

Thanks for the replies.

Having read DonWG's posts and also having had the thrust bearing fail on a new motor I'm kind of conflicted about the restrictor thing.

This Vigilante converter is turning out to be a real pain in the ass, pardon my French.
