Center support interchangeability

Hallo,

Finally Dorian is getting round to his 200-4R rebuild

The trans I have looks overall in good health except for the center support and the 4th clutch piston.

The 4th clutch piston is jammed in the center support and will not come out with reasonable coaxing.

I have a spare 200-4R around and the center support with 4th clutch piston move freely.

Can I swap one for the other?

The PN is the same. However the original center support has only one hole drilled through, whereas the replacement has to additional holes bored trough the middle (actually the three holes form a triangle around the main axis)

The original support has provisions for the two extra holes, but they are not drilled.

Will it work? Or should I try and pry out the old, slightly-warped, piston and swap the piston only?

THANKS

D

Thumbs up You are fine...

They are all the same for all intensive purposes. You should be fine, but upgrade to a piston that is cut to allow for an extra clutch in 4th.

Thanks

I'm all for the upgrade but what is the advantage of the extra clutch? In fourth gear, does one really feel it?

the extra friction is not for firmness as one can gain suitable quality for 2 frictions.it allows milder calibration of the circuit to reduce parts breakage while reducing the clutch slippage potential of underagressiveness.

Just tp get this right: I ask the machine shop to shave 85 thousandths of the piston and simply add a cluth between the two consecutive steels?

Will this affect the end play?

Thanks

Shave the piston .085. Then add clutch. It will NOT effect endplay.
Have a great holiday.
