Wondering what any of you have done to fix our always leaky turbo oil return pipe? I actually mounted my turbo before dropping the new engine in the car becouse i remembered what a pia it was to seat the drain pipe . well i have no leaks unless i put the peddle to the floor. So what have you guys done to modify the return line? Thanks for any input.
Shouldn't leak,.....Just put 2 studs on it next time and it is easy to line up and not disturb the gasket.
Not really a gasket on the hot air cars more like a grommet on the intake manifold where I am leaking . I have a few ideas but don't want to pull the intake and am curious what others have done to deal with this issue.
Well there's a simple trick thta might help you some but you'll need to pull the intake to do it. The baffle from the intake gasket needs to be cut right below the drain so the oil doesn't puddle there. I'm actually looking at welding a tube on the intake below the drain that will help it go down better. One where the tube will be bigger than the grommet and goes down below the intake gasket so it will drain right on the cam.
Found on below link- "Dorman 42323- found it at the local Oreilleys " http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/threads/generic-oil-drain-grommet.270986/#post-2049381
No problem with the grommet I need to stop the motor from moving so much under full throttle or extend the return line a bit. I have a plan and if all goes well will post my solution as soon as its done . And I'm sure it's been done before.
Look at this thread- it will help you with getting the tube in the grommet... http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/threads/putting-my-hot-air-back-together.366147/
I have used a 86/87 Drain tube and cut off the nut on the end. The tube is fully flexibility and it is longer for easy install.
This is the option i chose. The grommet is the same size and you can insert the drain tube and hose clamp it.I got it from my neighbor. He actually said its for a turbo drain but will have to ask him for the part number since i dont have the original bag it came from.
If you can get them cheap I'd like to have a couple stashed away Rudy. I like that way that looks and it should help keep things clean.
Good news and bad news. First the good news is that he said it was original equipment on 78-79 rivieras and was available at dealer. Bad news is wether or not gm sells them anymore. He worked for GM for years and accumulated a few small things and this was one of them. My dumb--- threw away the plastic bag it was in that had the part#. But im going to take a closer look by removing it today and check for a part# Thanks Rudy
Tried the same search with just the number and came up with an Army manual for using the laser painter for bombing missions. LOL
