Mustang/Buick Dyno Challenge

I was talking to John of John's Mustang and Classics in San Diego. They just moved into a new building in Kearny Mesa. Real nice. They're going to have a 2,400 HP eddy current dyno installed soon and threw out the gauntlet for a dyno competition between Buicks and Mustangs. Total Performance in Santee is finishing up a tube chassis Mustang and another shop, Advantage Auto Repair has been running a tube chassis Mustang. I'm sure they'll be coming. John, himself is putting together a twin turbo BB Ford, tube chassis car, early Mustang body, but I don't think he'll have it ready. A date hasn't been set. It depends on the response I get from the Buick camp. Most likely it would have to be late October or later. I will make sure it won't clash with the WCN in Pheonix. I was thinking we could set up different classes like stock, street legal modified, questionable street legal, stock chassis, 10 inch tire, pro street, full race, etc. Just some ideas. Nothing is set in concrete. If it's done on a Sunday we can have a large parking lot next door for parking. A picnic atmosphere was agreed upon. No pressure to hurry, just have fun. What do you think? Are you guys up to the challenge?

Questionable street legal! Who came up with that one? That should cover about 90% of Buicks. Sounds interesting & fun.

I had to throw that one in otherwise there wouldn't be many to compete.

I'm wondering if I should put this in the National forum. If I know John, he'll arrange for some media coverage if the turn out is decent.

Sounds Good I may need to be put in the almost stock class

But it sounds like fun, anyidea on how much it may cost. We will try to gather all we can. You can find a mustang on everycorner, just not a TB.

Hey that's something I'd love to go see. I won't be doing any dyno runs thats for sure. But anything's a good excuse for the San Diego TB guys to get together.

He's getting the dyno by the end of the month. I asked him today about the charge and he hasn't worked out anything on it yet. He's a bit busy getting the shop together. He was a little surprised when I told him that it looks like quite a few people might be interested in the challenge. If you guys want to check out his shop, be there July 30th at 9:00 a.m. They're having a grand opening that sounds amazing. There's going to be free food, hoochie mamas, neat cars, media and more. The shop is on Ruffner St. in Kearny Mesa, San Diego. The nearest cross street is either Ronson Rd. or Engineer Rd.

Well, if Carrddine and Egokilr are the ones reping SD we'll surely be in trouble. I suppose I'll have to bring out Angry Black and maybe the other TR... just so we don't look too bad.... Mid- August Ok?

I would hope we could get other TB's out here, Not just our almost stock class out here. Im sure they have some Mustangs that they are going to really try to put the smack down. Hopefully some of the Southern CA TB's will come out also,
L.A. Where are you?, I got plenty of old buddies out there when I used to live out there, they just dont have TB's, Mostly Impala SS's and El Camino's.

John has a lot on his plate at this time. We're planning for late October or even later than that. He has contact with some pretty mean machines. I'm pretty sure we're going to need some help from outside the SoCal area.
