My New '86GN passed

I got a great buy on a '86 Gn that had not been running since '02. The original owner said it was smoking and thought it had a blown head gasket. I changed all the fluids and did a tuneup and noticed that every time I started it up, it ran better and better. I knew it did not have a head gasket problem, so I decided to take to a test only smog station (in Ca.) to be tested. The HC's at 1500rpm were at the limit (128) and everything else was well in the limits. This engine is stock with 36# injectors, an adjustable FP regulator, and someones chip. It does have a 3" TH downpipe with a cat and during the test setup I had the car running to keep everything hot.
Jeff

Dave, you are correct, it is pretty dirty. I will continue to work on it but for right now I am focusing on the body and getting it stripped down and ready for paint. Much work to be done but mechanically it is in good shape. I will try to take some pictures.

Dave,
I have been working on the car to get the engine "cleaned up". I was able to get a direct scan with the ecm and found my BLM's at idle were high. Also the MAS flow was low (about 3). I changed the O2 sensor (got a heated one) and IAC sensor because the old one was erratic. I still had high BLM's even finding some vacuum leaks. Today I found a leaking EGR gasket and now life is good again. BLM's are 128 and MAS flow is 5 however I see my O2's are jumping around at idle but it seems to run well.
Jeff

O2's should be all over the place during idle. Shows a good active O2.

Dave,
Thanks for the information. I think I will replace the fuel pump, injectors (I was given 55# with a turbo tweak chip and modified ECM) and I will be go to go. I also picked up a TA 49 turbo for free. Nice to have such giving friends.
Jeff
