Smog inspection exemption??

New to all this smog inspection/safety inspection stuff. How old does a car have to be to be exempt from inspections? Asking not only for the GN, but in case I have to get another driver later. Someone said 20 years, but not sure. Any info?

1975 and earlier, and 6 years old and newer, are exempt. The 30 year rolling rule went bye-bye a few years ago.

So if i understand this correctly, a new car bought in 2002 does not get smogged until 2008?
