Is there a reason the IMG tag is turned off?

It seems to be turned off in more forums than it is turned on in. Is there a reason for this? I would think allowing attachments would put more of a drag on the site than an external link but then again I dont run a forum.

I am not sure if Zed (ls2, vbb guru) made his [THUMB] hack work for later versions of VBB but you might want to check it out. Its pretty slick, someone posts a HUGE image, a mod or the original poster is able to edit the post and add the thumb tag which then provides a thumbnail link to the full size image. LS2.com is also set up so that if you quote a person that posted pictures in their post they will automatically be converted to thumbs to keep the thread clean from repeating the same image in a bunch of quoted posts.

Just a thought.
