Water leak...left passenger side floorboard?

I did a search and found where a few people had leaks under the glove box. Mine is actually to the left of the glove box running down into the floorboard. Would this be leaking in around the heater part they were talking about too?

I had the same problem. I removed the grill that sits above the ac box in the engine compartment. Re-caulked and used seam sealer around it, now it does leak anymore.

I'm still learning about cars and I assume you mean under the hood up near the windshield right. Also what kind of caulk and sealer should I use?

Yes under the hood. Once you remove the screen you’ll be able to see where the old caulk has cracked and start to chip away all along the firewall. I can’t remember exact name brand of caulk but you should be able to pick it up at Napa Auto Parts. As for the seam sealer that’s what it’s called.

Btw...If your wet floor board is associated with the car running and a steam windshield check the heater core instead.

**1st thing is remove both wipers.

**Then remove the trim that runs the length of windshield (bottom). It's the one that about 4" wide. Be very careful with it, it bends very easy. It will come out without removing the trim that runs up both sides of the windshield, but you may have to pop them loose at the very bottom.

**Pull the weather stripping and the post that holds the wipers and washer nozzles in place.

**Then you'll be able to get to all the nuts with no problem.

It's not a hard job at all. Main thing is to be very careful with your trim and support it in the center when carrying it.

Ok one more quick question...so you caulked it and then used seam sealer? Did you put the seam sealer around the caulk?? I know I'm asking a lot of questions but I've never done much mechanical anything before including something as easy sounding as this. Sorry for all the questions and I really appreciate your help.

Caulked with a good caulk from auto parts store after that dries put a couple coats of seam sealer over everything.

Glad to be of help, I learn something everyday about these cars myself and I owned my 16 years.

You'll get good at the mechanical or you better have deep pockets one.

Caulk around where it attaches to the firewall and out toward the passenger side fender. You should be able to see where the old caulk has cracked.

NOTE; you will not find it looking down in the box, it's the top edge of it.

Just out of curiousity, does the water run down the ductwork inside the car and onto the passenger side carpet? Kinda looks like it's coming out of the heat ducts by the console on the passenger side? My brother's car is doing the same thing. We pulled the carpet back today and apparently it's been doing it for a while - floor pan is shot on that side. Plus the mold and mildew. The original caulking is not only cracked but is pretty much gone.

Yeah, I pulled the heater box cover and resealed it, VERY WELL I MIGHT ADD. I still get leaks under the glove box when it rains. Grrrrrr. I guess Ill just keep a rubber floor matt and a towel there forever.

My brother gooped up the top of it with silicone yesterday but it still leaks. I haven't looked at it, but he says the whole box would need to some out because the caulking is gone all around it. He ran duct tape along the bottom of the windshield under the cowl trim to divert the water away from the box and it solved the problem for now.

Thanks,
Jim
