OTC 2000 help
Hi
I have an OTC 2000 that I use to check idle numbers. I kinda got the hang of it. When I bought it, it did not come with a GM book. How do I use this thing to get lets say WOT MAF numbers etc. It also seems to raise the idle when I put it into the mode to read idle numbers. Also the BLM things and where/who might have a chart with numbers I should look for? Thanks! |

I recall that on the gnttype site there is a chart that lists the modes for the OTC2000. i've used one of these scan tools for years --- works well on our cars ( albeit a generic tool )-- mode #28 gives you MAF&LV8--- also your correct that in diagnostic state #8 the idle will increase to 1000rpm. To change diagnostic states push F1--then 4--- the diag. states will scroll across the screen. Most everything tests in state #9 ( road test )---Harry

Thanks for the reply, I have the gm 81-87 chip. I only get 2 modes. #1 is display/printer (where I get the data) and #2 is ADLD data (where nothing works) When I do the F1 and 4 it just scrolls the 2 options (#1 and #2) across the screen. Do you think I should get the Pathfinder '97 chip? Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks again |

I'm using a 1981-88 chip which probably accounts for our different read-outs. I'd check with OTC on their 800# and see what they say: Also maybe someone in your area would loan you an 88 or 89 chip to test so your sure the problem is not the scan tool itself.

Selecting Road Mode on the OTC 2000 with the `81-87 GM cartridge:
Hit: 1 - 7 [ENTER] 1 - 7 [ENTER] 0 - [ENTER] 4 - 9 (ROAD LIGHT ON , SELECT MODE) You are correct, The 2000 attempts to set the idle to 1000 rpm for diagnostic testing in the standard mode. Road mode also gives you the percentage of spark knock, not available in standard mode. Shoot me an e-mail if you need a list of all the modes... HTH - Jimmy
