The last thing McCain will likely ever be scared of is debating Barack Hussein Obama... On any issue, including McCain's weak points. And those points may be many... Of course, Obama has far more of them just the same.

Obama's only strong point is his ability to read a teleprompter. That's why he avoided the town hall discussions. He has, now, had plenty of time to study and be tutored on the aspects of foreign relations and feels that it would be a wasted effort not to get to show the fruits of his labor.
Let's see ......... Foreign relations or our country going into a financial spiral....... I'll get back to you after the debate.

Psssssssssssssssst

WASHINGTON - Republican John McCain says he's going to be at the first presidential debate, even though Congress doesn't have a bailout deal.

With less than 10 hours until the debate was scheduled to start, the McCain campaign announced that the Arizona senator would travel to the University of Mississippi. The campaign said after the forum he will fly back to Washington to continue working on the financial crisis.

The campaign's statement said McCain is optimistic that there has been progress toward a bipartisan agreement. But earlier in the week, McCain said he would delay the debate "until we have taken action to address this crisis."

Yeah, I don't get this how people can actually say McCain is trying to avoid debating Obama.

From the very start McCain has called for more than the two or three normal debates, but Obama has rejected every offer.

McCain will humiliate Obama on Iraq and use direct quotes from Obama to make him look like a fool for not supporting the surge which has brought our focus away from Iraq and back to Afghanistan where it belongs.

The Palin, Biden debate will be pure comedy though.

I spoke too soon. McCain is on for the Debate!

Defense Secretary: Not Enough Troops For Afghanistan

Tuesday, September 23, 2008 1:49 PM

WASHINGTON — Up to three more combat brigades could be available to go to Afghanistan beginning next spring, in answer to repeated calls from commanders for more troops, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Tuesday.

Gates told the Senate Armed Services Committee that more forces can't be committed now without extending combat tours or changing troop deployments. But, in response to prodding from the committee's chairman, Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., Gates said they probably could go in the spring and summer of 2009.

Levin objected to a statement in Gates' prepared testimony that said it now may be "possible" to do militarily what must be done in Afghanistan — which has been a secondary priority to the Iraq war for years.

"It seems to me that is just simply not good enough," said Levin. "To say it's possible that we'll do what we must do in Afghanistan does not represent the kind of commitment of forces or resources that our commanders on the ground are asking us for in Afghanistan."

In response, Gates offered the likely troop buildup next spring, but cautioned that the next president will have to weigh how large a U.S. force should be sent to Afghanistan, given that the population does not readily welcome foreign forces there.

If it's hillarious, it's because Biden said something stupid, which he seems to do daily.

Thank almighty for the 1st Amendment - Geeeeeeeeeeeesh Guys.

Well, at least I do read the previous posts before responding. I'm not saying yet that I'm voting for one or the other. Yet both candidates are not without weak points. Regarding the press moments and use of teleprompters, I see that both use them religiously. Hell I could do that as all you have to do is freaking "READ" if you can do that.

I don't consider the "Showdown at Saddleback" as a debate because they weren't on the same podium facing each other. When you have to look the other man in the eye (like dragracing) and tell him to his face his ideas stink and back it up with substantial evidence, that's what you call a debate on the issues. Yes, Obama for some reason doesn't like town hall meetings and prefer an open debate while McCain thrives on town hall meetings.

Hey, it's all Politics guys and you play the card your dealth. McCain was actually smart for wanting to back out of the debate cause he thought he could leverage an opportunity for a photo op and lead the charge for resolve (not). I'm not just beating up on McCain because Obama basically did the same thing on his foreign visit, basically walking around like he was President. With Obama, he's smart for targeting the "middle class" which consumes most blue collar workers and promises to lower their taxes while big dog CEOs and those making over a 1/4 million suffer the wrath. McCain's plan is that the average taxpayer in every income group would see a lower tax bill, but high-income taxpayers would benefit more than everyone else. 1There is absolutly no guarantee that each one of their plans will work.

So we can't blame them because they're doing what they have to to "WIN". Regarding the VP candidates, I could easily ID both their flaws but wont. Regarding Palin, how much more scripted can you be. Everytime she talks it like she's listening to the voice in the headset and repeating whatever they tell her. Her hype is definitely over. Biden, just often puts his own foot in his mouth and has, on several occasions, went againt Obama on issues.

So, what do we really have here? The debate tonight is definitely going to get ratings (regardless) but if McCain doesn't show, I think his poll rating will definitely suffer and I'm sure David Letterman will have a another field day with that. Yet, should be very interesting to watch and see the polls turn.

Open debate????? That's exactly why Obama didn't want to debate at the town hall meetings. They cannot be scripted. You have to shoot from the hip and respond to questions off the cuff.

Could it be that she is sticking to her guns and every time one of these left of center journalists asks the same stupid question she answers it like she believes and doesn't flip flop. They try and try to make her slip up but it has proved fruitless.

By the way, all of them are politicians.

Surely you can't be serious. And as for Palin vs. Biden...yep, that IS going to be hillarious, shortly afterwards I predict Biden will drop out

How soon people forget. Obama was dodging debates when he ran for Senate until the end. Maybe he just wants everyone to drink the kool aid beforehand I dunnu

ETA
I find it funny how now McCain is suddenly the debate dodger/coward. The debates could of been done and over with a month ago. Personally I would get it over with ASAP so I would have plenty of time to explain in detail what I meant during the debate since your on a time limit.

How much more "open" can a debate possibly be than a town hall forum? Standing at a podium getting your questions from a reporter doesn't stand up to getting them from any number of average citizens... Citizens who are much more likely to know what's really going on than many, if not most of these "bigtime" reporters, I should add.

A photo op? You're kidding, right? He's the Republican candidate for President of the USA... He needs no "photo op" atoll... He IS a photo op... He can hardly wipe is butt without someone standing there to take a picture. He hasn't had any need to wait for President Bush for that, and he'd be crazy to use Bush anyway, if you believe anything the liberal media has been feeding for 6yrs.

He didn't go trying to take charge. He went to make a difference. Conversely, Obama tried, albeit unsuccessfully, to avoid the whole thing by not going to work at all and instead, staying on the campaign trail. One of these two is deseperately trying to remove himself from any/all responsibility.. That one seems to have forgotten he's ALREADY an elected official, being paid tax dollars to DO a job he isn't doing.

If you really wanna know how much more scripted they can be, just watch Obama. He literally waits till he's told what to say in most cases, which is the main reason he's absurdly bad without a teleprompter infront of him while speaking. Biden is a mistake, looking for a place to fall over... But at least he speaks without being directed or having the words placed just feet from his face. Anyone who's seen any of the 4 speak publicly has already seen the gaffes of Biden AND the studdering of Obama. The only one who has trouble with the prompter is McCain, and he's just bad, period, at giving scripted speeches. Palin doesn't know all the answers and has seen so many "gotcha" questions, you'd think that SHE is running for President, rather than the two men who really are. She's probably the best public speaker of the 4 too, since she makes few mistakes in general, and doesn't waste time trying to remember the wording. I can't even begin to remember all the silly comments we've heard from the others. Obama and Biden are neck and neck for the honor of biggest screw up though... 57/58 states... WTH is that about? And that's just Obama... Biden has made so many it isn't even worthy of further discussion. He's a clown in a business suit. That guy told a paraplegic to stand infront of an audience... Uhh... No...

McCain acually offered to pay for obama's plane tickets to 10 town hall open forum debats.....obama rejected the offer to debate. That is a fact. if anyone wants to dispute this, please show us otherwise.

The economy is going down the toilet, and the government is proposing the largest social bail out in the history of the U.S. He decided it was best to actually do his JOB and go to Washington ( unlike others) to be in on the decision.

Its kind of like neighborhood kids saying "lets fight, lets fight, lets fight" and can't get a fight, but as soon as the kid is called inside for supper, the other kid says, YEA, you better run.....its really pathetic guys....really
