SOCIAL SECURITY IS WELFARE. it isn't some "savings program" where they put your money in an interest-bearing account... they simply tax people who are currently working to pay for retirement benefits for those who are not working. It is classic redistribution of wealth -- it just does it by age group rather than by income. The money goes right into the treasury just like all other tax revenue. The way they got the program to gain wide acceptance and got people away from the stigma that USED to be on those who accepted redistribution of wealth is by creating this myth that whatever money you put into the system was YOURS... this idea that it is an investment that you put money into so you can have it later. Oh, and of course YOU HAVE NO CHOICE, but that's OK, because you are not a government policy maker, so you obviously are too stupid to care for yourself. It is a very ill-thought-out program that ended up being a pyramid scheme when the amount of children people were having started dropping, leaving less and less people working for more and more people retiring. classic example of the stupidity of the ivy league central planners who think they should be running everything in our lives, but never can seem to foresee the catastrophic unintended consequences of their "well-intentioned" plans.

Many poor people that work simply can't invest money. Actually, many middle class people don't have money to invest either. What are we gonna do with millions of 70 year old who can't work and have no home? Let them rot?

SS needs to END!!! I'm all for my generation bearing the burden. Anyone over 40 years old (do studies, could be 35 or 55) will get SS. Anyone under that age no longer gets it. We will pay into a SS tax fund to take care of those who will get it. We will also be required by law to have IRA payments taken from our checks just like SS is now. As time goes by and the people in SS die off the burden to my generation will be lessened. I do not plan on getting SS when I retire. I really think it will go bust by then. I don't plan on getting any inheritance from my parents, even though there is a little money there. I plan on paying for my own retirement just like everyone else should.
It was never intended to be a retirement fund. My dad and mom paid in for 40 years. What do they get in return, about $1700 a month, which doesn't even pay their mortgage. I've paid in for about 20 years and my statement says I already qualify for $1400 month if I were put on SS. ![]()

That was the topic of the last several post. As I said before, if you look at it realistically, all social programs are a form of welfare and socialism, it is the government taking some peoples money, and deciding who to redistribute it too, even if they don't work, or failed to plan for the future. If someone at one point has made a substantial amount of money, and failed to invest a decent amount in a retirement plan, that is protected, even if they go broke, then I have no sympathy for them, that is inexcussable, why should my money go to someone who at one time might have had 10 times what I have, but failed to plan for their future.

Social Security in the United States is a social insurance program funded through a dedicated payroll tax. You have to PAY into it to collect!
IT IS NOT WELFARE, so get over it............................. ![]() |

Quote:
Congress voted to award SS benefits to illegals who haven't even payed in, where does that money come from? If your married and your husband dies, you can collect SS and so can your dependent minor children, whether you worked or not. If your an ex-wife and meet the requirements, you can collect SS, whether you worked or not. If you become disabled, as long as you have earned 6 credits, you can collect for life, long after you have received far more than you've payed in. To give you an idea of how long it takes to earn 6 credits, you can earn up to 4 per year and you get 1 credit for every $1000 dollars you earn. So a person could work for less than 2 years, earn only $6000 dollars, pay in just a few hundred to the system, then become disabled at say age 24 and collect SS for the next 60 years, plus they have a program where you can go back to work, earn money, and still keep your benefits, but it's not a form of welfare................ROTFL Your right, SS is funded through a payroll tax, the employee pays XYZ, and the employer matchs it, but, money that is not used, i.e. employee dies with no beneficiaries, stays in the pot and gets distributed to others. Now they want to distribute that illegals, what would you call that, social insurance.......ROTFL Lets see, the government is taking my money, and distributing it to others who may or may not have payed in, or just met the minimum requirements, and in some cases collect for years and years, but if I die, my money stays in the pot to pay for them, but it's not a social program. It's a form of social welfare, it can in some circumstance go to those who have not payed in, or not payed in their share. Insurance covers you for the amount that you insure yourself for, no more, no less, in some circumstances SS will pay out for 50 years and 1000 times what you pay in if you live long enough, thats not insurance, thats social welfare. I know you want it to be different, I know you want people to think you know something, you don't. Anytime the government forcibly takes your money, then decides who gets it, it a social welfare program. Now you want to know why the system is a welfare system and is going broke, Quote:
SS is a social welfare program. Get over it....................................ROTFL
