Racism In The Next Election
WASHINGTON - A presidential candidate who's named Hussein and wears a turban? A building that's called the White House but run by a black guy?
Those political images and ideas already have found their way onto TV airwaves and campaign buttons, possible harbingers of racially tinged messages in a general election involving the first black candidate to head a major party's ticket. Though the election is more than four months away, the campaigns of Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain are shaping their strategies for dealing with such appeals. The Obama campaign vows to fight back fiercely and fast, not repeating John Kerry's mistake of waiting to respond to the 2004 "Swift Boat" ads that Democrats saw as a smear of his military record. McCain's camp is alert for attacks on its man, too. The McCain campaign promises to condemn any race-based political appeals. But it also insists it won't stand still for false charges of racism or for allegations merely aimed at preventing criticism of Obama on legitimate issues. "Every word will be twisted to make it about race," said Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., a McCain friend and adviser. When he and others confront Obama on issues such as national security and the economy, Graham said, it will have "nothing to do with him being an African-American." Obama adviser David Axelrod said the Democrat's campaign will be on high alert for code words or innuendo meant to play on voters' racial sentiments. "We're going to be aggressive about pushing back on anything that we feel is inappropriate or misleading," he said. more: Obama braces for race-based ads - Yahoo! News |

I don't dislike Obama because of his race.
I would vote for Colin Powell before I voted for him or McCain. Plus, Oblahma is half white, yet he and his campaign are branding him as the "Po Black Man"... I dislike Obama because he has no economic sense, no experience, and no idea how to run the country.

"I dislike Obama because he has no economic sense, no experience, and no idea how to run the country."
Thats a good honest response....Too bad there are many here and in the U.S. that will make this election about his skin color/religion.. |

To me, a black man cannot run the country because there are places that still don't permit or accept black people. There are golf courses T.Woods can't play at, communities Oprah can't buy a home in, and much more than the eye can see. But, in reality, his some of his ideas just are not possible to obtain, like how to get to them. But, it is stupid how some people vote by race.

When the the "Hillary Democrats" all vote for McLame in the fall the media will paint them as "Racist Republicans".
Just watch. Republicans won't vote for Obama because he is an empty suit, Jimma Carter wannabe. Not because he is black. It's the Democrats (the ones that don't mind Jimma Carter wannabes) that won't be voting for him "because he is black"

And just today, Obama gave the "they're going to try to scare you" speech. And at the end... 'And did I mention he's black'... Again... BARACK made that statement, but whites aren't allowed... Who's racist? It's totally obvious. Personally, I won't vote for Obama regardless of color. I've been saying for months now, he has done nothing of value for the public and he's done nothing to prove he's capable and most of all, he's a friggin' socialist! |

This country will never elect a black man. Even one as intelligent as Obama. Black are and always will be the minority. Majority vote wins. Not to mention that most of the political contributors are white CEO's of large companies with powerful lobbyists.

Never say never Brett.
I honestly think if Colin Powell had challenged for the GOP nomination he would have won it and smashed Obama in November. I have no problem with a black man running the country, if the black man is looking out for the good OF THE COUNTRY. Same as a white man, he better be looking out for the COUNTRY and not himself...or he is not worthy of the office. I am would MUCH rather have a black guy president than a white woman president. Many women (not all, but a lot) from what I see tend to make decisions based on emotion rather than reason. I would not want to see ANY person in the White House that wasn't looking down the road at the long term repercussions of their actions. |
