Pakistan and Taliban sign pact
“America makes no distinction between those who commit acts of terror, and those that harbor and support them, because they’re equally guilty of murder.”
- GW Bush, Sept. 5, 2006 Really? Pakistan just signed a peace deal that essentially gives Pro-Taliban forces and even bin Laden himself safe haven. The Pakistani army will even go so far as to return captured Taliban weapons and prisoners. These are our allies? by kos Pakistan and Taliban sign pact Tue Sep 05, 2006 at 07:55:35 PM PDT August 27: Gen. John Abizaid, commander of the U.S. Central Command, said militants are using Pakistan as a base to infiltrate into Afghanistan, but he said the Pakistani government is not conspiring with them. "I think that Pakistan has done an awful lot in going after al-Qaida and it's important that they don't let the Taliban groups be organized in the Pakistani side of the border," he said in Bagram, where the main U.S. military base in Afghanistan is located. Abizaid said he does not believe accusations of collusion between Pakistan's government and the resurgent Taliban rebels or other extremists. Today: Miranshah: Pro Taliban militants and the Pakistani government signed a peace deal on Tuesday, according to Pakistani negotiators. The militants said they would stop attacks in Pakistan and across the Afghan border on the condition that the Pakistani government stop air and ground operations in the Waziristan region and dismantle newly built checkposts. People arrested during military operations will also be released under the agreement and confiscated property, including weapons, would be returned. This is the best part of the deal: The peace agreement means that there will be no more free movement for tribes to enter into Afghanistan. "Except for trade, people will not be allowed to go to Afghanistan to launch attacks," said Nek Zaman, a member of the tribal council who is also a member of the Pakistani parliament. I'm sure they all got a chuckle after "agreeing" on that part of the deal. With no Pakistani Army or checkpoints in the region, who is supposed to enforce that? So was Abizaid lying, or was he blindsided by our supposed "allies" in Pakistan? And congratulations to Bush, who was just played the fool by Musharraf, who is cashing in U.S. checks to the tune of $3 billion over five years and was supposedly assisting US efforts on the "war on terror". Update: Woah, it's even worse than that: If he is in Pakistan, bin Laden "would not be taken into custody," Major General Shaukat Sultan Khan told ABC News in a telephone interview, "as long as one is being like a peaceful citizen." – ABC News, Sept. 5, 2006. That's Bush's allies in action. He's allienated our real allies, and made friends with thugs and despots. Why would we expect anything less? Like I said.... the problem has always been in Pakistan and Syria. Iraq was a bunch of B.S. and a waste of time. So much for having a bunch of limp wristed Republitards running a war on terror. ![]() |

So who's not telling the truth? ABC? Associated Press?
I saw this with my own eyes and heard it with my own ears on TV last night. It was clear:
Pakistan: We Will Capture Bin Laden If He's Found Wednesday, September 06, 2006 ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — Pakistan said Wednesday that a peace deal with Islamic militants in a border province would not give safe harbor to Usama bin Laden if he is found in the country. Pakistan's government and militants -- believed to support Al Qaeda and the Taliban militia -- signed a peace deal Tuesday with the government, aimed at ending years of violence in the rugged North Waziristan tribal area. "Pakistan is committed to its policy on the war on terror, and Usama caught anywhere in Pakistan would be brought to justice," the country's top army spokesman, Gen. Shaukat Sultan, told The Associated Press. Some observers had expressed concern the pact could provide a haven for militant leaders like bin Laden, who is believed to be hiding in the rugged border zone, or that it proves the Pakistani military unable to crush an insurgency on its own soil. However, Pakistan's Defense Minister's office said Wednesday that "Pakistan is on the hunt for Usama bin Laden and his associates." "No amnesty has been granted to Usama bin Laden," it said. "He deserves no mercy." The White House also defended the deal, saying Pakistani President Gen. Pervez Musharraf's government "has been very cooperative in helping track down members of Al Qaeda." "There's been an implication that somehow this throws open the border area to Al Qaeda. That does not make sense for the government of Pakistan," White House spokesman Tony Snow said, responding to reporters' questions in Washington. "We don't believe it is the case," he said. "And I think what's happened is, as quite often happens, people try to connect dots that aren't there." Under the deal, the militants are to halt attacks on Pakistani forces in the semiautonomous region and stop crossing into nearby eastern Afghanistan to attack U.S. and Afghan forces, who are hunting Al Qaeda and Taliban forces there. Pakistani troops are to stop their hugely unpopular military campaign in the restive Pakistani region, in which more than 350 soldiers have died, along with hundreds of militants and scores of civilians

I don't know if Major General Shaukat Khan is a senior General to this Shaukat Sultan, but he says specifically on this video clip of the ABC news report "As long as one [Saddam or any terrorist] is being a peaceful citizen, one would not be taken into custody"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHa4Q2rqqQg Plus the ABC quote I posted directly contrasts that of which you AP reports says. "If he is in Pakistan, bin Laden "would not be taken into custody," Major General Shaukat Sultan Khan told ABC News in a telephone interview, "as long as one is being like a peaceful citizen." – ABC News, Sept. 5, 2006. You watch the interview and you be the judge. All in all... if Pakistan is not going to be patrolling the Taliban, then that will spell trouble for Afganistan and mostly likely our troops there. |

Whatever the case, you seem to be happy about the outcome. After all, you wouldn't want your kindred spirit, Osama, to be taken prisoner. The left is invested in the defeat of America, and all this shows me is that Islam is the common thread between Pakistan and the Taliban. It is Islam, not nationalism.

"You people are invested in the defeat of America, and you want whatever it takes to put your commies you idolize in power. No matter what we did to fight terrorism, you ne'er do wells would be criticizing the actions instead of supporting your country. That's not in any way a lie."

What is the average life expectancy in that area of the world, how old was Bin Laden, what medical conditions did he suffer from, what medical care is available in the region where he is reputed to be hiding, when was the last time he a made a statement where the current date could be verified.....???????
Plain and simple he either died of natural causes or our government dissapeared his ass. The fools dead and he wasn't made a martyr. End of story. Chris S
