Modern day McCarthyism

Kennedy, Schumer, Feinstein, et al. Guilt by association and smearing tactics. The best they could come up with was a passing college mebership in a "concerned alumni" organization and a weak recusion on the biggest mutual fund in the world? That's all you got? And to drone on and on about it? One "honorable" Senator after another, trying the same worthless tactic? Mother Teresa could've been up there and "they" would've treated her the same, just because a Republican nominated her. Is there no decency left on the Left?

They gave it up about 25 years ago, if they ever had any. We don't know because there was only mainstream media lies until about 12 years ago, when the alternate media and internet started putting out what was really going on. Now they have a hard time hiding their true nature. They still think they can, though. That's how stupid they are.

What's it all about?

Senate commitee on confirming Supreme Court nominee Sam Alito. Questions along the lines of "Sir, do you still beat your wife?". Pre hearing media hype about him overturning abortion, when in 3 of the 4 cases he reviewed on the subject, he voted FOR the pro abortion side. Now the Democrats want to delay the commitee vote for a week. Still trying to find some kind of, GASP, dirt they can use on this fine gentleman. One of his old law clerks, a female, from San Fransisco, card carrying, ACLU loving Liberal, wrote a letter praising him while chastising her fellow democrats for their tactics. She said she was embarassed. She finished by saying, "Don't F Judge Alito". She probably knows him as well as anybody. I think the only nominee the republicans could put up that would be approved by the democrats would be Bill Clinton!

The Democrats came off looking like idiots. They didn't hurt anyone but themselves.

And the right wing bigots arent guilty of the same smear campaigns?

How soon they forget, what about the smear campaign against Senator John McCain or Sen. Max Cleland? Both were Vietnam Vets who served this country honorably. Max Cleland is a triple amputee vet and his character was attacked by the bigots on the right. You all know how this administration tried to smear Mr. McCain! When the shoe is on the other foot, you all scream foul! PATHETIC!

Hey 87WE, your words would be taken with much more consideration to your point if you left out the word bigot.
Shumer and Feinstein are total pieces of crap anyway.

Both McCain and Max Cleland were attacked on their Politics and Policy and not on their Character or who they associated with 30 years ago.

Just because you are a decorated viet nam vet doesn't mean you get a pass when you vote for stupid bills or say stupid things.

Max Cleland may be a triple amputee, but it is UNDISPUTABLE he also a Freaking Idiot who was completely out of touch with his constituents in Georgia.

Please bring some facts, next time, Weester.

"Both McCain and Max Cleland were attacked on their Politics and Policy and not on their Character or who they associated with 30 years ago."

B.S. The attacks against them were personal!

"Anne Coulter wrote, "Cleland didn't give his limbs for his country or leave them on the battlefield" because she says he lost his limbs in a "routine, noncombat mission where he was about to drink beer with his friends." But the truth was, Cleland lost two legs and an arm in Vietnam when a grenade detonated after he and another soldier jumped off a helicopter in a combat zone."

"Conservatives in South Carolina used "push polling" to suggest that McCain's Bangladeshi born daughter was his own, illegitimate black child. Thus, the "pollsters" asked McCain supporters if they would be more or less likely to vote for McCain if they knew he had fathered an illegitimate child who was black. In the conservative, race-conscious South, that's not a minor charge."

If Cleland was in a Combat zone where is his Purple heart? He himself said it was HIS grenade and it was at HIS OWN base and not IN COMBAT.

Since when is using someones OWN words against them a "smear"?

As for the "Push Polling" on McLaim, that HAD ZERO to do with Bush, but was a Bush "supporter". Bush disavowed this supporter in the SC debate then handed McCain his Ass when he showed Similar propaganda being spread by McLaim supporters.

McCane acting like a whining baby is why he lost SC (and not "push polls" or "political smears"). I lived there, I know.

You are confusing what pundits say about people with what is said by opponents (I know you are easily confused, but come on). The unsubstantiated smears against Bush by pundits are 10X those against McCane or Cleland COMBINED.

"Cleland won a Silver Star - one of the highest honors for combat courage the U.S. military gives out. The congressional citation which came with the medal specifically said that during a "heavy enemy rocket and mortar attack Captain Cleland, disregarding his own safety, exposed himself to the rocket barrage as he left his covered position to administer first aid to his wounded comrades. He then assisted in moving the injured personnel to covered positions." The citation concluded, "Cleland's gallant action is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service, and reflects great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army."

Which has zero to do with him dropping a grenade at his base and blowing himself up.

Cleland is an Idiot politician that thought he could tell everyone he was a war hero and then go to Washington and vote with Tom Dashle and Ted Kennedy.

The Georgia VFW and even his FELLOW DEMOCRAT SENATOR would NOT endorse him, because of this.

Can you see the difference between Ann Coulter and Ted Kennedy? One is a pundit, the other is a lawmaker.

If by "dirty tricks" you mean "repeating someone's own words" 30 years later, what is wrong with this?

If by "dirty Tricks" you mean "repeating someone ELSE's words, somebody whom you have never spoken to, and claiming they are your words" that ISN'T ok.

When it's done by a state campaign worker in a Primary, it's one thing. When it is done by a US Senator on National TV, it's another.

Is any of this sinking in?

OK, good, you're starting to get it! Now, back to this thread: the Democrats tactics used during the Supreme Court confirmations. If you want to talk about the Republicans, start your own thread. When Clinton's appointees came up, the Repubs were civil and ended up approving them both by about 96-3. I say the Demos will still scream bloody murder about women losing their "right" to (free) abortions, the world is coming to an end and Alito will only get confirmed by about 60-40. My point is that the Demos don't really have anything substaantial to oppose this guy but use doom and gloom to get people all worked up against him. Much ado about nothing and they haven't given up yet. Your turn.

I personally dont have an issue with Alito, he will make a good judge. Did you hear that Feinstein wont support a filibuster against him.

FYI,

"During Clinton’s term, Republican Senators blocked 40% of President Clinton’s nominees to the federal appellate courts for policy reasons. Republicans threatened to stop all confirmations or eliminate judicial seats to prevent Clinton from selecting his own judges, insisting that they were entitled to choose half of the judges."

Weester, you being a highly decorated military man should know virtually ALL military citations end in this standard blurb. We even had the templates on our award processing programs before I retired.

amazing that the dems are concerned about Alito's involvement in a group opposed to co-ed admission, yet one of their own served in a little fraternity known as the ku klux klan (Senator and former 'kleagle" bob byrd, D-WV)
(but we're the bigots...go figure)
