Seeking a government that performs!

This is a great editorial from a Conservative! Never thought I would agree with Newt Gingrich, but the man is making a great deal of sense!

"In the aftermath of Katrina, there's an opening for a different kind of politics in America. The new politics isn't about values; it isn't about settling scores. It's about performance. It's about putting a wounded, shaken country back on its feet, much as Franklin Delano Roosevelt did in his famous First Hundred Days.

One politician who is clearly articulating that vision right now is the recovering right-wing firebrand, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. I've always had a soft spot for Gingrich, despite his sometimes nasty partisanship during the 1990s, because he is that rare political figure who actually does think "outside the box" about how to solve problems. And he's doing that now.

Performance and government do not go together, you should know that......well I guess you don't, that's why you are a liberal.

Government does not make this world perform, people do! You should have learned that way before Katrina.

Explain that one....

All it takes is teamwork and cooperation...Now if the parties could only understand that and quit the rhetoric B.S.

"Government does not make this world perform, people do! You should have learned that way before Katrina."

Government should be run by the people!, in other words, the government should be held responsible..

The pursuit of power is now at a point where there will never be cooperation between the two parties. It will only get worse from here as one party tries everything possible to overthrow the other.....at least while the Republicans are in charge.

The best form of government is NO GOVERNMENT.

Performance and government should not be said in the same sentence.

How about we start the reconcilliation by putting Nancy Pelosi in one of those heinous 25,000 body bags she spoke so eloquently about the other day.

You know the 25K ones that were going to filled due to everything being Bushs' fault.

Let's see, the govt. should do a ton of stuff for ya, and then we as people should hold them responsible if they don't.

Liberals ya gotta love 'em.

BWAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!

Its commical.

during the Cliton years you couldnt find a liberal on the planet that thought the government should be held responsible for anything.

now all of a sudden, they are concerned.

freakin hypocrites.

I just read the article.

For some funny reason I heard the words in Ross Perot's voice.

Thankfully it wasn't John Andersons voice.

Do you really think anyone in a government job wants to be rated on a performance based system?

Lotsa dead wood to go through, unless of course you're espousing to double the size of our government(s) to make them more efficient.

I'm not sure we need politicians with "visions", I'd prefer to see them with a chain saw for some budget chopping and living within their means or should I say OUR means.

Why should it take a natural disaster for people to do their jobs or simply the right thing?

I'm doubting you will ever change politicians or their methods of operation.

I wonder what Nancy's reply to Newt would be?

Drop your rhetoric and h@ll yes I will be more than glad to cooperate! I went independent because of the rhetoric that is so regularly spewed here. Both the Dems and the Reps need to get off their high horses and start working for the people. H@ll yes, lets grade them on their performance and if they dont perform.....Fire their @sses! We have grown far to dependent/trusting of our elected officials!

So, WE drove you to it? You were a mild-mannered, non-SEAL-impersonating traditionalist american patriot until you stumbled into this coven of facist bushy chickenhawks?

Is that what you're saying? Don't make us search the archives for the dramatic turn-around...tell us the time and date when we pushed you over the edge. /s/

Now that's a laugh. You may be a "registered" independent but your ACTIONS dictate otherwise. As they say "actions speak louder than words". You have voiced an extremely pro liberal attitude and anti conservative attitude on this board. If you're a true independent voter then I'M a welfare recipient. Your general philosophy is very liberal and a socialistic governmental doctrine is perfectly OK. That's definitely a very liberal view.

Just a shot in the dark but I would suspect you vote 70% + Democrat.

The rhetoric spewed here is the same crap that drove me from the rep party...that sound better?

And yes, the infiltration of the rep party by neo-cons and religious fundamentalists were the main reasons, not to mention the dittoheads.

On the other side, the michael moores and nancy pelosis made it very easy not to support the dem. party!

United States not Divided States!

You're reply is fair but the rhetoric and loons are equal on both sides if not more so on the far left. Personally, I don't see the "right wing loons" being embraced by the mainstream of the Republican party unlike the Democratic party has.

In all honesty, I too am an independent and will not register with any party. I have and will (on occasion) vote for non-conservatives. The Democratic party EMBRACES socialism and feel that is destructive to our society as demonstrated by Soviet Russia among many others. They all fail. Socialism DOESN'T work and here's a great commentary on it.

Thanks for the civil discussion.
