SAN DIEGO - Republican Mayor Dick Murphy packed his belongings and bid farewell to his staff Friday, ending a rocky 4 1/2-year tenure that was cut short when he resigned amid a wave of scandal.

Eight months after being re-elected, Murphy is resigning in the midst of a federal probe of San Diego's deficit-ridden pension fund and with a federal jury deciding the fate of two republican councilmen accused of corruption.

SAN MARCOS – U.S. Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham, under federal investigation for his dealings with a defense contractor, announced Thursday that he would not seek re-election.

Dozens of federal agents conducted searches at opposite ends of the nation Friday in a widening investigation of U.S. Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham, breaking into his Rancho Santa Fe home and carrying away boxes of evidence from the house and from a contractor's office in Washington, D.C.


Cunningham has been shadowed by questions concerning his relationship with Mitchell Wade, the founder of MZM Inc., a defense firm.

Wade purchased Cunningham's 3,826-square-foot house in Del Mar in 2003, then put it back on the market and eventually took a $700,000 loss when he resold it a year later. During that span, home prices in San Diego County rose an average of nearly 25 percent.

At the same time, MZM Inc. was increasing its federal contracting business.

Cunningham is a member of the House Appropriations defense subcommittee and the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, both of which oversee the kind of classified intelligence work MZM does for the military.

The congressman also faces questions about the arrangement under which he has lived on a yacht belonging to Wade and moored in Washington.

Uhhh...I don't know where you got that story, weester, but the two councilmen on trial are NOT Republicans. (You didn't edit your pasting, did you? I wouldn't think so - 'cause that'd be a lie. And you wouldn't... Oh, wait... I forgot. You lie all the time.)

Neither was the third one charged (who has since died.) All are/were lefty's. Zucchet, Unzunza, and Lewis (RIP).

Here's a little info on the DEMS ON TRIAL-

"...Inzunza comes from a prominent Democratic family in the South Bay..."

"...Wayne Raffesberger, one of Zucchet's Republican opponents in the 2nd District primary election, described the Democratic councilman as a policy..."

Weester caught lying? That's never happened. He clearly took snippets of stories and reworded them slightly. He then tried to say the two Dims on trial were Republicans since it would show him to be a hypocrite for criticizing the Reps. over "alleged corruption" when two of his kind are on trial for it.

1) 2 Republicans might be dirty. So what? We could whip out tons of stories on crooked Dims.

2) The WHOLE Dim party is on the run. Translation= They have been OWNED by the Reps! Buwahahahahaha

You have to remember he has that list of *When it's OK to Lie*, so armed with that, he excuses himself from having any conscience, as evidenced by the fact that he's repeated lied. Mix that with his elitist comments when he's found out, like he was some how smarter then others for getting away with the lie for a while. The thread wound up being about another of weeeester's lies. Geez. The Forum is "Political Views." San Diego is one of the last Republican areas in CA, and the 7th largest city in the U.S.. It matters.
