Dispicable Group Protests Fallen Soldiers Funerals

Fred Phelps is the leader of a demented Christian religious group who insists upon protesting the funerals of American soldiers killed in combat in the middle east. The group isn't against the war so much as they are virulently against homosexuality. Now, of course, this has nothing to do with the deceased soldiers themselves, it has to do with the idea that the US military supposedly tolerates homosexuality under the auspices of Clinton's "don't ask, don't tell" policy. I never quite understood why people who purport to be motivated by a hatred of homosexuals choose to demonstrate it by protesting dead soldiers. I can think of other venues where one would expect them to spew their unique kind of kind of venom, such as hollywood movie openings. But Fred the fanatic and his merry band of morons were nowhere to be seen at the premiere of Brokeback Mountain. Instead you'll find them in graveyards, bringing even more misery and heartbreak to the families of our fallen troops as their loved ones are laid to rest.

Well, some lawmakers have had enough, and today, President Bush signed into law, a bill that restricts this group's times and locations in which they can protest at these fallen soldier's funerals. It would seem a necessary step to take when dealing with such irrational, hateful, people. It would seem..........unless you were a member of the anti-American ACLU.

Yes, the ACLU has taken a short break from their typical role of defending child pornographers and terrorists, and have found another way to crusade against America. The ACLU has committed itself to represent these lunatics because their civil liberties might be infringed upon. Maybe the ACLU just wants to protect these nuts from being murdered by grieving family and friends of our fallen heroes. Yeah.....that's it.

Our Dem. leader here in Ill. passed a bill to ban any demonstration from any group within a funeral or gathering. I think its good all the way around,I dont think I could stand by at a familys funeral if that was going on.

I am super right wing.... but I have an issue with creating a law where people can protest its just another stupid law that is not needed.

How about the police at the protest turn around for 10 minutes and let someone else take care of those a holes.

While Fred Phelps' group of lunatics only numbers about 75 individuals, there are millions of uninformed, anti-American leftists, spreading their lies and propaganda in the media they run, the schools, which they rule, to anyone that will listen, pushing their leftist ideology. Any ingrate who blames anybody but themselves for their personal problems is a typical convert to their anti-Americanism. Need for Stimulation
Living on the edge, yet testing the beliefs of their followers with bizarre rules, punishments and behaviors. Verbal outbursts and physical punishments are normal.

Callousness/Lack of Empathy
Unable to empathize with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others' feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them. Their skills are used to exploit, abuse and exert power. Since the follower cannot believe their leader would callously hurt them, they rationalize the behavior as necessary for their (or the group's) own "good" and deny the abuse. When devotees become aware of the exploitation it feels like a "spiritual rape" to them.

Rage and abuse, alternating with small expressions of love and approval produce an addictive cycle for abuser and abused, as well as creating hopelessness in the victim. Tends to move around a lot or makes all encompassing promises for the future. Many groups claim as their goal world-domination or other utopian promises. Great contrast between the leader's opulent lifestyle and the followers' impoverishment. Support by gifts and donations from the followers who are pressured to give through fear and guilt. Highly sensitive to their own pain and health.

Criminal or Entrepreneurial Versatility
Changes their image and that of the group as needed to avoid prosecution and to increase income and to recruit a range of members. Is able to adapt or relocate as needed to preserve the group. Can resurface later with a new name, a new front group and a new twist on the scam.
