Sounds like something that would happen in Michigan

Guardsman’s wife fired for extra day off

A Michigan woman who took an unpaid leave of absence from work to see her husband off to war was fired after failing to show up for her part-time receptionist job the day following his departure.

Officials at Suzette Boler’s former workplace, Benefit Management Administrators Inc., confirmed that Boler was dismissed when she didn’t report to work Oct. 17, the day after she said goodbye to her husband at an Indianapolis-area airfield.

“We gave her sufficient time to get back to work,” Clark Galloway, vice president of operations, told The Grand Rapids Press.

Suzette Boler received permission to take off work the week leading up to Spc. Jerry Boler’s departure. As a part-time worker, she did not receive vacation or any other pay for her time off.

Dam!!! So she should have driven right home from Indy and be at work the next day??

Maybe Quick can help.

Benefit Management Administrators Inc., needs some phone calls. If someone comes up with a phone number for them, would you post it?. I couldn't find it Googling.

Now hold on just a bit.

If she agreed to be back the next day then whose fault is it she didn't show up? The employer or the employee?

It states she had taken a week off....she should have planned the dates she chose the week around the departure date if you ask me.

Personal Responsibility. If you say you are going to be there..then be there.

JMO of which..I am sure you won't agree but I take employment issues very seriously.

Why didn't she plan on taking the week off so that she would have more than a day to get home rather than having to go straight to work? Her bad planning cost her the job. The fact that she was going to see her husband off to war really has no bearing on this. In fact, it might have been better for her to see him off and then take a few days off from work to cry her eyes out and get that part over with.

Good points but, It is a pretty life changing event for a spouse to know that she is basicly on her own for an extended period of time. Actually a shock.
If you don't believe me just ask your wives.

Who knows what she may have been thinking at that point and leading up to that. It may not have been as easy as she previously thought it would be to go to work the very next day.

One day? These are not your run of the mill circumstances.

There must be more to the story.

If there isn't, I think it sucks.

I quote:

Boler recalled
***being asked, not ordered, ***
to start back at her job Oct. 17, the day after her husband left. She told her bosses that she would try to return that day but if she could not, she would definitely be back Oct. 18, she said.

When Boler returned home from Indiana on the night of Oct. 16, a few hours after leaving her husband at the airfield, she said she felt drained by the emotional ordeal and decided to return to work Oct. 18.

And:
BTW, have you ever said good-bye to a spouse going into a combat zone?. Maybe, a touch of compassion would have played alot better on your, and her employee's part. I'll wager the productuvity takes a hit over this nonsense..

The *logic* of the self proclaimed *Smart Guy* falls face down in the dirt of idiocy, again.

You know that claim about being a *Smart Guy* is just all the more laughable with every post of your's.

Taking into consideration the results of her taking off a little time, I'm sure she wouldn't have been allowed to take off a week. Does this sound like the kind of employer you can ask for time off from? Of course not.

BTW Bruce....you do the exact same thing he does.

You're like a broken record so save it already. Your opinion is duly noted and taken into account.

If you don't like the PV...feel free to leave the PV.

Who said I didn't like it?.
Maybe you ought to spend less time guessing, and more time actually moderating.

BTW, it you don't like moderating the Forum, don't whine about it, when you feel put upon to actually moderate.

If you can't figure out what trolling is, well, now that's your problem. If you want to see me cut down on responses to trolling, the easy answer is just not to allow trolling. I still find it had to believe, your excuse for not knowing what a troll is. But, it's *your* board, so if you want to foster hate, and idiocy, well, that's your decision.

Red, she was given permission to take a week off without pay. Most places only give 3 days for a death in the family so getting a whole week off is pretty good. Like I said if she planned it better she could have had a few days before and after her husband left and nobody would have said a thing.

Nobody is whining except you....as usual.

You give me enough examples of what a troll is on a daily basis....no need to look very far.

Let me rephrase what I wrote earlier...if you don't like PV then keep our opinion to yourself..because quite frankly nobody wants to listen to you.
