run in with a Mach I
Recently, a young kid in town finally recieved his Mach I that he ordered back in August. I'm no Ford fan, but this car is really nice lookin', (if you haven't seen one yet). Anyways, Saturday night a buddy and I were out in the GN just riding around and came up behind the Mach. I'd tried to get him to run the previous night but to no avail. However this time, he got in the right hand lane which means, "IT's ON!" THis took place on the highway outside of town so the speed limit is 65. I finally get up to him and he's still accelerating, when he levels off were already going 60, so of course I'm leary. I let him get in whatever gear he's comfortable with and then we both took off together. I immediately got half a car on him and we level off until around 95 when he starts to pull really good on me. When I let out he had a car on me and we were goin 100-105 I guess. It was a really good race and fun to say the least. I imagine the top end on these are very good, but I've never raced one top end before. My friend firmly believes I would have ripped him from a light because he has felt the wrath of the black beast before. I seem to lean the same way, but no excuses, he did get me. I'm not ashamed of my 135,XXX mile V6. I love my car and am proud as sh*t to have joined the dark side!

Nice run though. I actually got into a race with one about 3 weeks ago leaving LAX. Like all Mustangs they are hard to launch. My car is no beast @ 13.9 byt my A4, gear, and 275's help me out of the hole. I jumped him by near 2 cars through 1st. Pulled another 1/2 car through second then basically held pretty close to the same gap the rest of the race. We were both headed the same way on the 105 fwy so we ran them again from around 50. He immedietly pulled 1/2 car then mis shifted as I got the lead and held to around 100 my speedo is way off because of the gears. Bottom line is they are not that fast. Car and Driver claims 14.1 1/4 mi times. One of the Mustang mags apparently tested a freak to a 13.2 but I think it is just a marketing ploy. Average driver, they, like many Cobras are only 14 sec rides.

MrBoost,
Gotta' love a 16 year old car with a V6 hanging with a new pony car. Going from a roll at 60 against a DOHC car probably isn't wise. Get some DR's and run him from a dig. Quote:

The automatic Mach 1's are running a few ticks slower. For some reason, Ford programmed low shift points on the automatic cars and put in a cast crank. Who knows why. Almost any outcome on the street can be explained by bad driving. I wouldn't call BS on low-mid 13-second Mach 1's because of an impromptu street race. Go to the track and watch them race. Incidentally, in three trips to the track since December, I haven't seen one racing. Maybe the owners are coddling them. ![]() I'd like to catch one on the street, but I honestly haven't even seen one on the street. I've seen more '03 Cobras than Mach 1's. S.

I wanted to get him from a stop, but he would never slow down enough. Maybe I'll get him again soon and let ya'll know. I've been noticing under WOT that I'm only running 12-13 lbs. of boost. Does this seem a little low? I'm all stock as you know so I'm leary as to how much to run, I know they all run different, but what do you guys think? As much till it pings?

Maybe the spring in your wastegate is getting worn out making it easier to push the puck off. Anyway get a scantool and create or buy an adjustable wastegate, and tune for max of 1-2* retard. From GM these cars would often do 15 or 16lbs from the factory without much KR on 93 octane, so you can probably still do it, might want to do new fuel pump but definitely new fuel filter first. If you're going by audible ping, don't. The knock sensor can detect knock way before a person's ear could.

dude it's time for MODS! i'm not sure how i could handle losing to a mustang...
![]() actually those mach 1's have 320 net horsepower stock so they are farily beefy to tangle with if you are near stock
