hotair intake intercooler adapter

hey guys i have been researching the spearco and powerstroke intercooler conversions, but i cant figure out how the pipe coming from the intercooler plugs into the intake. Is there some special adapter that plugs into the stock hotair intake that goes on the end of the pipe that must be bought/fabricated? Do the people who do the powerstroke conversions have to make it, and how?

I've done both. The spearco setup has an elbow that bolts into the intake. No fabrication required. From the looks of it, it is the single most restrictive part of your intake tract. It necks down to barely 1.5" on the bend. My car trapped 110.3mph with it and it had a bit more left considering the low boost I was at. I have no idea how such a piece of crap like that could run those speeds.

Before I went to the Powerstroke, I decided to relocate my throttlebody to get my response and drivability back. In the process I welded on a 3" elbow, angled it back slightly toward the firewall for turbo clearance and have been happy ever since. When it came time for the Powestroke, I think it complemented the rest of the 3" piping.

If you don't feel like doing the welding for the powerstroke IC you can always use the elbow from Turbonetics ~$50 and use a silicone reducer to make it work.

If you're using the Spearco kit you're all set, everything is there.

you must've had an old kit.my intake adapter doesn't have any kind of "neck down" at all.

i will say the short side of the turn is a little abrupt, but i did smooth it out when i was porting everything.

with any luck i'll get this pile up to the track after elk season.

It's funny you mention that because I've heard there's a new style that's much improved. I got my setup back in '96. What doesn't make sense is I sold my kit to a friend and I lost the old adaptor so I ordered him a new one and when it came in it was exactly the same. Maybe it's just luck which one you get.
