Another Tech Question

My car since yesterday has decided it wants to idle at 10 in. vacuum instead of 20 in. vacuum like it usually does. I coded the computer and it gave me a code 13 so I replaced the O2 sensor. That didn't help. Then it gave me a code 32 so I replaced the EGR valve. That didn't help either. The engine idles really rough and when you put it in gear it tries to die but usually doesn't. What should I try next?

B.T.W.- The engine is still giving me code 32.

Pull the vacuum line off the EGR and see if it helps.

Sounds like you may have a large vacuum leak? You might want to check for leaks using some carb cleaner--also, check to make sure your throttle body hasn't come loose!

Thanks for all the info guys! I unhooked the EGR vacuum line and the car ran smooth as can be! I also found out the EGR valve they gave me was for the wrong car. I guess I better find the right one.

Good Luck...I tried to get one back in 97 or 98 from the dealer and was told it was discontinued...I don't remember for sure if they ran the number through the locator to see if any were still out on the shelf somewhere at a dealership or warehouse...Make sure that if you have the dealer look up the number that they run it through the locator just to be sure...

The aftermarket one that I tried had a handful of "washers" with different sized apertures to meter the amount of exhaust going through...It should work if you use the correct size washer, but it turns out that a bad egr wasn't my problem at the time and I just put the original back on ...

Good luck...

Glad that helped but I bet the problem is not the EGR valve itself. If it's setting a code it has to be electrical like the solenoid or wiring. I said to pull the line to eliminate all of that. Check your connectons and if you buy anything, get the solenoid first. EGR valve itself should be fine.
