its coming apart!!!
Tonight i started my timing chain job. I took the MAF pipe and sensor and k&n off and i removed the intercooler. I also took off the serpentine belt. I was planning on following the instructions on gnttype.org. But i have a few questions. Does the upper radiator hose need to come off? Also, do i take the water pump off with the pulley still attached? According to the directions, it says to take the harmonic balancer off next. In order to do this won't i need to take the intercooler fan off and then the crank pulley? I'm sorry i have a lot of questions but i am new to this and have never done this before. Also, my stock turbo with 163,000 miles has some play in it like i suspected. I stuck my hand in the inlet bell and it moves from driver to passenger side about 1/2 inch. How bad is that?? Thanks in advance!!

i was standing at the front of the car. i stuck my hand in there and wiggled it from right to left. It did not move up or down though. I could get enough movement to get some good sounds. Then i leaned over the driver side fender and watched the amount of play. It is seriously about a 1/2 inch. my dad even confirmed my estimate. It only smoked sometimes. I took it to the track a few months ago and it never smoked once during the 4 passes i made!!! it is time for a new one though!! any info on the timing chain replacement?

Turbo sounds killed.
W.R.T. the timing chain, the GNTTYPE instructions are pretty good. I kept a checklist as I went to make sure it all went back on. Going from memory. Remove the IC. Remove upper and lower rad hoses and little S hose. Disconnect any wiring in the way, O2, IAC, TPS, oil light switch. Remove crank sensor and note which slot the breaker ring is riding in. I pulled my water pump pulley off, makes it easier to remove water pump bolts. Remove pump. Keep track of all the different length bolts. IC fan, fan and pulley mount is really deep and the bolts are a pain to reach. Remove damper, I used my impact wrench to get the huge bolt out. Damper will slide off. Remove cover bolts and don't forget the 3 underneath going through the pan. I had drained as much coolant as possible and then raised the car as high as I could before pulling off cover to prevent coolant from getting into oil pan.
