Max. RPM - Stock Bottom End

Just wanted to see what the general consensus was for the maximum RPM the stock bottom end can take on the LC2. When I say stock, I mean bone stock - no girdles, billet caps, etc. For the sake of argument, pretend that the cam can breathe up to whatever rpm.

Thanks,

Mike,
I know someone up in Flint that was shifting at 6800 rpm. He was running a 224 or 230 cam.

Lightbulb STOCK MOTOR REDLINE LIMIT

Lots of variables, but 5400-5800 range sounds "safe"

Well, I know this is an old thread but, there may be an “updated point of view” . So, as of March 2009, what is the consensus on RPM limit with a stock bottom end?

i dont think you can really compare whats safe based just on rpm , hp has some bearing on whether it will live at high rpm

at a little over 600rwhp ive been shifting and trapping little over 6,000 (129+ on 28" slick) , has been to 6350 a few times on shifts , can tell you i dont feel comfortable running over 6k and with with my hyd flat tappet cam (212/208) im off the power band at 5800 or so , a tighter converter would help a lot more than spinning it up

So pauly just to be clear, you say 6k is where you feel comfortable but not more.

I ask because I'm putting in a 218 218 roller now while we're freshing up the motor.

I think weight and weather it is NA or Huffed is a big factor as well, I would push a stocker bottom past 5750 in a stock bodied car...... or really anything over 3300lbs, with or without boost.

but i have pushed a stocker NA 4.1 rotating assembly to 6500 in a 2500lb body. Kinda scary sounding, but it has held multiple times.... **** - I'll do it on the way home from work tonight!! might beable to grab 7 if i can get somebody to hold the camera.

have to keep in mind that if you're running on chip... most chips have rev limiters that cutoff fuel.
highest they can set them is 6350 ... might be set lower!... you'll have to check by either asking you chip guy or do a breakdown of the chip on a pocket programmer
straight gas or race gas wont have a problem with the limiter , spraying denatured and water mix is not too bad because its not a fuel but meth is and if injectors are cutoff at that rpm under boost meth still sprays and will be lean and go pop and you'll be looking for a head gasket .

make sure your chip has the limiter removed ,
