Angry Failed Emissions Test

Well took car through test today. My EGR is blocked off. Didn't change the oil or anything from sitting through winter. Ran it with 93 octane fuel set at 38psi line off, disconnected fan. Jay carter street chip. Had an old stock cat and downpipe. It was about 200 deg. when test started. It failed!!! I'll try some denatured alky and new oil next time. ANYONE HAVE AN EMISSIONS CHIP TO LOAN FOR 009's??????

Ive been putting mine off for almost two years now, ithey are making me go next month now, I will be trying ever thing to get mine to pass. What happens when your car falls, how long do you have to fix it before they try to take your tag or something. I am going to try a lot of alcohol in my gas tank when i go.

good luck with it,

Frank,

You really like the FP eeeeh!

Got a couple of options available to you:

-Do the "sure-fire" technique to the diagnostic port and leave your 009's in.
-Hope that someone has a chip for you to try.
-Change some things and tune it up.
-Borrow my 30's and street chip.

Pay off the inspector

That egr blocked off will prodoce high nox readings get the egr on and it will also lower hc.Dont forget to change oil just think of all the hcs in that old oil.Low timeing chip is a must, good luck.

FrankG-

I too have heard if your car is iffy in passing to NOT change the oil. I would reconnect the EGR stuff and you should be good to go. 009's run inherently rich.... Turn the fuel pressure way down and maybe even get a smog chip if you have to for those squirters.

I too will be trying to pass CA emissions with 009's. We'll see what happens.

They must be considerably less strick here. I've had no trouble passing emissions and that was with my PitBull chip. I usually change the oil and remember to put the cat back on. With the Thrasher I doubt it would pass. It seems to be richer. My plugs were fouling where it never did it with the Bitbull.

Trust me not changeing the oil will not help i do emission testing everyday unburnt fuel=HC.Dirty oil is full of HC.Our cars would be a perfect example with all the aftermarket fuel pumps and large flowing injectors most of us install.

Yeah i just noticed that, that sucks. De max for hydrocarbons is higher too 2.20 where MD is 1.80 max. These laws are so stupid. What some states don't need clean air!!! I wish someone had an Emissions Chip for me to borrow. That with new oil and low fuel psi and i think it will pass easy. Is it better for emissions to run colder or hotter plugs? I'm going to get new plugs in it to. Thanks,Frank

Idle and fast idle test is called a two speed test, depends where you live, a two speed idle test is only done on cars with full 4x4 and traction controls that cant be manually turned off. For example here in Ontario you have to run car at 40 km then perform idle test make sure the car is not cold,a cold converter will not work properly.Lean the car out until it barely idles,Use a low timeing chip and dont forget fresh oil.Make sure wires and plugs are good, looking at your hc numbers it doesnt look like there is a problem there.and dont forget the egr.Good luck.

Yeah it would be easy to get my EGR working again if i have to. I just have to remove my RJC power plate, everything is still in place and hooked up, i just never drilled the hole in the plate for the EGR. They ran mine on a rear wheel dyno type machine, like normal driving at all different speeds. I think part of the problem was the lady doing the test, when it was climbing in speed she's spoolin the turbo up then goes to fast for her so she lets off of it then on it again to try and keep it where its supposed to be. She wasn't to steady on the throttle I think she was a little scared when it shifted hard and spooled up real fast. Frank
