Question S-10 Wheel cyls. are they for a street driven GN ?

I've read that they work good on some peoples cars and on others they have problems with rear brakes locking up. I have bought them and haven't installed them yet. I'm waiting till I get the braided stainless replacement hoses. I plan on using the Raybestos shoes that I installed not to long ago.

What do you guys think, let me know.
I value your opinions and what you've experienced.

THANKS

Tarey D.

Do Not Buy Autozone S-10 wheel cylinders!!!!
They are a cheap replacement and if you look at the part number, it is the same # as the grand national, or any other rear wheel drive car I believe. Check it out on the autozone website. I would check out a better source to buy them at, like maybe Napa..

That'll be another beer Gnergy!!

I have had a set of S-10 wheel cyl. and soft shoes for years with no problems. However I also added a proportioning valve. Without a proportion valve you will lock up on a panick stop.

I see what your saying. They WILL lock up on you, but only if you tighten them, (so you can hold more boost at launch) and your front brakes are almost gone (no good). This is what was happening on my car and It went away as soon as I did my front brakes. As long as you have good brakes up front, you have nothing to worry about.

NAPA ones work great.

Thumbs up

Ok, thanks G Mcall and Jorge, I'll install them as soon as I get my stainless braided hoses. I had just put new shoes in the front in August.

One unpleasant discovery I made about the braided stainless brake lines. I bought the Russell set, and I could not get the rear line to seal. I don't know why, but I think the sealing surfaces were incompatible between the new line and the hard line on the car. I ended up using a new rubber line in the rear and just the two stainless lines up front. To me it was still worth it to have the front lines, just something you should keep an eye out for. Maybe the Earl's set is better, I dunno.
