TB flow #s

Has anyone here flowed TBs, and if so, are you willing to share the setup and results?

We considering doing some, but would rather not waste time repeating someone else's good work. I realize you would be giving away info that YOU paid for, but we would be publishing what we come up with for you too. We are considering doing the following (as a start) with what we have on hand:

Stock
Stock Polished
Stock "home ported"
62mm
JJ62mm
65mm
PTE70
???90 (need to vfy mfg)

On Jay Jackson's site he had a TB customer that had access to a flow bench and tested in both a blow threw and draw through setup. don't quote me on the numbers but I think stk to 62/65mm porting he does picked up 61 cfm on the intake test and 66 cfm on the draw through test. The info is on his site :

I know of plenty of guys running the stock throttle body that has been bell-mouthed, but still has the stock size blade, and are running high 9's thru high 10's!

Wouldnt draw-through be useless for our purposes since the TB is always blow through under boost?

Wink Uh oh... some more "competition," eh?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: the porting to 62mm is only a small part of the modifying I do. The bellmouthing of the TB, matching to the upper plenum, and throttle shaft mods increase the QUALITY and QUANTITY of the airflow! Most everyone that is running a "stock" TB and is going fast has done at least some of those mods, even though the blade is the stock size.

Not everybody has the equipment to do it, and at my LOW price (shameless plug! ) you may as well send it to me for a thorough cleaning and "the works" and know it no longer has airflow disruptions or as much restriction as stock!

Yes, Bob, there are not "as many" gains from these mods since we are blowing through the TB instead of drawing through it. It would make a bigger difference on the hot air cars, but I rarely get the '84-'85 TBs from customers.

Bob,
I imagine the only reasone he flowed it in that direction was just for comparison number purposes to see how things changed in both directions, I mean if ya got the tools, why not, for the data purposes.

I sure liked the work he did on mine he didn't even make fun of me where I'd bellmouthed the opening

Thumbs up Quote from Jay's Website

QUOTE:

"Stock flow was 480 cfm on the intake test, and 398 cfm on the "blow through" test. After being modified it flowed 541 cfm on the intake test and 464 cfm on the exhaust test."

Thumbs-up for Jay, and his very fine work!

i was told there are guys running in the 10's with the stock throttle body/plenum unported and unpolished...

i always figured it was an uneccessary mod? especially for a guy like me with a high to mid 11 second combo...

My answer to this is: there are guys running mid 11s and faster with stock intercoolers... doesn't mean a modified or bigger one wouldn't help!

Don,

Lots of guys do the JayJackson 62/65mm TB & Ported Plenum mods in the beginning, just as they start to mod their GNs/TRs.

It's one of the most affordable (120 w/cores) mods and it will complement most every thing you do to the motor subsequently.

Exactly. If you have a surplus of time, and have an extremely thorough knowledge of the car, you can fine tune the ****ens out of it. The rest of us depend on easy, relatively inexpensive, upgrades.
