Yes....if the whole combination is right.Suspension and converter are very important.

what would be the main upgrades to the suspension to put the power to the ground... other than LCA's and air bags.... drag shocks maybe???? I've heard of people being able to run in the deep 10's with factory shocks but then again this is gonna be in a Camaro powered by a turbobuick engine.... so its not going to have that 4 link suspension.... i know its a whole new story but does anyone know about suspension in 1st generation camaros and what combos work such as leafsprings etc

I was about to say there's a Mustang in the current issue of Car Craft that runs 1.27/8.69/161 on 10.5's, and if I wasn't so lazy I could probably find examples going quicker/faster.
There's probably more known about getting Camaros of any generation to hook that TRs, simply due to sheer numbers of cars. The sportman categories in NHRA are awash with 1st gen Camaros. Maybe you can tap into their expertise??? Good luck!!! ![]() |

do you guys know of any boards or places i could find serious info on what works when you are draging a 1st generation camaro!! That would def help me out in a few sections other than the engine and trans which will all be buick powered

There are several items to look at when using the Camaro platform.
1. The 10.5" tire is going to be a problem for stock wheel wells. [Just finished a 68 stocker, and used the 29 x 9 slicks. The well was FULL] 2. Camaros can be equipped w/ either multi or single leaf springs. I would use the single leaf. [NEW] and a pair of CALTRAC bars.[They are adjustable traction bars that don't require sliders on the hsg] 3. I would also use the QA1 adj shocks on all 4 corners. The car MUST have a good set of frame ties! May even want to consider a set of solid ft subframe mounts to minimize twisting. Your combo should be lite wt... The stocker,[E/SA] weighed right at 3000# w/ a t-400 and a BBC iron head engine, 6pt bar, stock interior. HTH, ![]() |

Thanks!!!! VERY USEFUL..... but what do you mean by a solid frame. I'm on a budget and I cannot afford to get a new stronger frame if thats what you are implying!! Would it be hard to do a little body work to allow room for 10.5" slicks???? such as triming the fenders etc??

The comment referred to solid frame mounts, not a new frame... Moroso sells them. They replace the rubber biscuits that the ft sub frame is mounted on.
As for cutting the car up.. Your choice... IMO, a car w/ the fenders cut open looks like sh!t. Tires hanging outside the fender line is pure redneck... ![]() |

That's my main concern.... being able to tuck big tires in the rear without it sticking out. I want the whole tire tucked INSIDE the wheelwells and thanks for clearilng up the solid mount thing... i was confused about that one
