conley engine problem
I have been working on a car a friend of mine just bought and it has a conley engine in it with a bout 10,000 dollars worth of parts. It has the following:
te61 turbo GN1 heads 55 lb injectors max effort chip/ and red 107 chip houston down pipe 9 inch convertor roller rockers 960.00 intercooler in stock location 450.00 secoundary fuel pump(conley) plus a lot more Now the problem, the car runs like pure $hit. 12.80@103 at silver dollar, I just checked some things on it today and I found a stuck waste gate in witch we are working on now, tps was way off, witch is now fixed, but the car will come up on boost and then it will spike up and down real fast. at 15 lbs it should be running pretty quick but it falls on its fase. I pulled the turbo pipe off and found no oil in the intercooler or pipe. BUT the inside of the intake is flooded with oil. If you open the throttle blade the inside is soaked with oil and it is coming out around the top of the planum wher the vacum hoses connect. Where do you think it is coming from? I think maybe a blown intake gasket? We checked the pvc and it works and the car has no blow by out of the dip stick. I do here a little valve train noise but I think that is the roller rockers. Please any suggestions would be helpful. This car should fly but my old 009's GN will wax it for now.

Just becasue the car runs like **** , doesn't mean that the Conley's did a bad job and didn't built the car right.
How many miles are on the motor? Did you check plus, wires, coil pack, MAF, vacum lines etc? Double check all your options before you come on this board and bash a well known vender. The are alot of things that can go wrong with these cars and make them run like crap. Get all your ducks in a row before you bash someone on this board. After you check all these options then we can try to help you.

When in the heII did I bash some one? I didn't I just said it has a conley engine in it. I NEVER SAID CONLEY DID ANYTHING WRONG SO GET OVER IT!!! go dog someone else...gezzz, man you guys are waiting to start something with anybody. The car has 3 thoudsand miles on it and putin said it ran 740's in the eight, which I tink sucks but I didnt pay for it so I not complaining about that. I have check coil pack , vacum lines, plugs, but there is oil in the intake and I dont know where it is coming from. I DONT BLAME CONLEY AT ALL SO STOP TRYING TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE IT!
I just want to get this car running again. It has all the parts and it should fly, So if yiou cant help then dont waste my time or anyone elses with you negitive comments! out

You very well may be having a serious case of MAF Dropout. Try installing a check valve inline with the PCV valve. And investigate an oil aor seperator to install between the PCV and intake. For that much engine, and tring to run it on a generic chip is kind of foolhardy to me. The ME will give you some fuel control, but not address the Dropout. The only way around Dropout is with a Translator or T+, or MAFless ME. |

He needs a chip badly and I dont like the max effort, can you burn him one for pump gas? if so how much and I will let him know. I did notice that the maf never got higher than 242 grams, dont know why but we where at 15 lbs of boost and the highest it got was 242 in 3 rd gear, first and secound was not even close to that or either it wasn't reading right. We where running it with turbo link v 2.13. 1.9 degress knock, tps 4.74 @wot, 830 o2 with the 107 red chip(rich I know). But that maf has got me confused. Please offer me some thought's and I will follow master :-) thanks Jeff

If you are trying to run a red's 107 with only 15 lbs. boost it's a miracle it ran at all. That chip is made for 22 and higher. When i ran msd 50's with a 107 if it didn't hit 23lbs it would flood the motor with fuel in 2nd.

A) As Steve posted, you are not running the car in the proper parameters for which the chip is expecting.
B) Are you running the 107+ race fuel that is needed with the high timing of the chip? C) Is this a 12.80 on hard street tires? D) Is this from a 5, 10, or 15 pound launch? E) Does this convertor have adequate stall for the as-yet-unstated camshaft that is in the mill? F) With all that fuel capacity (including chip providing enough fuel to run .830 numbers), you need more air - i.e., boost. G) Are the RPMs dropping at least 750 at each shift? IS the trans slipping? If you are interested in real data under racing conditions, get DS and provide us with some more complete data. You should ensure that the intake is seated properly with the gasket and has a valley pan blocking oil from underneath. HTH, |

As just a slight correction to Bruce's statement the regular ME has anti drop out logic in it since 94 (I just checked). It locks the maf at an operator programmable gm/sec and the maf can go to 0 and nothing will happen to the PW after it locks.
Also if the wgt solenoid is used by the computer for boost control, the boost will vary wildly because the wgt wires are programmed for alcohol injection or a shift light. Use the Red's chip if you would till you get it sorted out. Steve Last edited by Steve Y : November 4th, 2002 at 11:51 AM. |
