Pinion Angle

What is a good baseline to start at?? Also, how many degrees negative or positive can be added before driveshaft begins to bind?? Thanks

Tony,

Start at 4 degrees positive. This is always a good baseline.

I am almost positive you run 4 to 6 degrees nose down or negative angle. The rearend is going to raise under power you want it close to level under power.

BTW, Laz, are you the guy with the white car that we were parked next to in Reynolds last year?

Laz,

I don't claim to be a chassis builder but it sounds like we're saying the same thing. 4 degrees down is where you want the pinion angle. My understanding is that this is positive pinion angle not negative. As you said the pinion wants to rotate upwards as load is applied and the car squats in the rear.

4 degrees negative or down is what I've heard to use as a max negative angle. Just as Laz said the rear will rotate up upon load so you want to start negative so loaded it will approach zero and no bind.

Guy's,

I just did a search and it seems my understanding of what constitutes positive and negative pioion angle is wrong although 4 degrees down is what we agree on. Here is a link which I hope works. http://www.go-fast.org/z28/pinionangle.html

Chris,

Me admitting I was wrong and the link to the tech article wasn't good enough for you?

Perhaps if you'd offered your first born AND a free ride in your car it would have been.

Chris,

No harm no foul. I'd offer you the first born but I don't have any kids. Heck with the cost of Buick stuff who could afford them! Anyhow I'd give you a ride in the car if you come to Vegas in Nov. It will probably bore you though since yours is faster.
