The type II individual coils have been used on GM cars since the late '80's. You must use the proper module for it to work on a GN.

It kinda pricey, and takes some effort but if you want a good ignitions system then you'll want to trash the DIS stuff al together and get a FAST eDIST. It uses the late model LS1 coil near plug coils, and a module to reroute the coil signals. Much better then the oem stuff.

good setup

Yes, I have used the type II coil for about 12 years with out any problems. My friend told me this story. He was an engineer @ Delco Remy when Buick came to them prior to 84 looking for some type coil pack for these cars. Delco tried to talk them into staying with the distributor to no avail. That is why they have the Magnavox on them. Delco then got busy designing the current type II coil set. My friend was in on the project. As a matter of fact he installed my current coils. They DO NOT have a hotter spark (unless you buy the methanol coils) than the Magnavox. They will handle the heat better. Only certain years will mate to the harness plug. If the plug will fit the module it will work. I take an old plug with me to the bone yard when I look for them.

Isn't it true that they make aftermarket coils for the Type II as well?

Thanks,

well

My thing isn't so much looking for a hotter coil !! I just like the fact that the module for the type II ignition is not 180 bucks.. Also the coils on the type IIare more appealing looking then the single large coil that cam eon the car.. An yes there are aftermarketcoild for the type II ignition ,in the current Jegs Mag there are some.. From what I can tell all youneed are the 3 coils the correct 14 pin module that will workwoth the tr plug an a adapter plate to mount the module too.. The link above to Ebay is a good deal @ the current 31 dollar bidding price.. I think I will hold out a few weeks till the Nats an see if anyone elseis having good luck with this set- up..

Dave,

If memory serves you can find that information on gnttype.org

Good luck,

coils

Some years back GM made a Chevy that run on methanol. This same engineer told me that it took a hotter coil. I have been running 3 of these on my car since I installed DIY methanol. I just bought 3 for a friend last week.
GM part # 1106008----List $ 55.85-----net $30.
