Timing Advance, Extender/Trans + , and WOT/PE Questions...

Got a question on timing advance….

I have an extender chip with a Trans +, programmed for 98 octane (23 wot timing in low gears/21 high gears). I set the base timing switch on the trans + to E (I think its E) which retards timing 4 degrees…so I should end up with 19/17 timing.

First question: the timing advance p’logger shows should correspond to the timing in the chip right? If the chip is set at 17 timing WOT in Third, p’logger should read 17 right?

Question #2: Does the extender chip, gather its information on what gear you are in by the shift linkage /switch on the steering column? or by another means?

Question #3: If you are in Power Enrichment, you are in WOT? or the ECM at least sees it as WOT?

Thanks,
Nate

I spoke with Mike, here are the answers for any future folks with the same questions...

Answer #1: Any timing adjustments made by the trans+ occurs after the ECM, so you will not see the "actual" timing adjustments on your p'logger or scan tool

Answer #2: If i understood correctly, The steering column picks up park/neutral, and the pressure switches in the tranny tell the ECM 1,2,3 or 4. 3rd and 4th gear boxes will both be checked when in 4th in p'logger

Answer #3: Power Enrichment = WOT.

You said you had a 23/21 chip, so that's likely what you'll see in PL as it reads what the chip is commanding. As you found out, the Translator adjusts the timing after the ecm, and sends it to the ignition module, so you wont see it.
Which is why it's SO IMPORTANT to always know where those two switches are!!!!!!!! Don't ask why this is important :-(
But yes, that's the neat part, one chip can be race or street just by manipulating those two knobs (timing base, timing wot)

You got the right info on the tranny switches and lingage differences.

Not necesarilly. PE is just that. It's a fueling mode based on load, tps, etc.
As far as the Translator is concerned (I assume that's what you're asking about), it assumes WOT at anything over 3200 rpm (maybe 3400, I can't remember).
