Misses @2000 and no load, fine under load??

A new problem has arose, and I am started to do some trouble shooting... These symptons are new, and I haven't changed anything (although i have just started putting miles on the car, since i got it all together)....

The car know backfires through exhaust after a WOT pass in 3rd... no knock... The car is very hard to keep running on a cold start up...backfires, thorugh exhaust/stalls. It takes several times to get it started... Once the car warms up, starting is not an issue and idles fine with no indication of an issue. If i keep the car in park, bring the rpms up to 2100 or so the car will miss and stumble. If i put the car in drive, stand on the brake, and bring the rpms up to the 2100 rpm or higher, no miss or anything...

I would have thought putting a load on the car would make the problem worse...

So i am going to start checking a few things out, wasn't sure if anyone had any pointers... (i already swapped out the coil pack/mod...same symptons...

Thanks,
Nate

Anyone have any ideas? I am going to try to get it out on the road tonight to see what it does while driving it normal and WOT.

Thanks,
Nate

I would suspect crank sensor

Take a look and see if it's loose or been hit. Check the balancer. Make sure it's tight.

Make sure your pulley bolts are not too long. I have seen where they have pushed the timing ring and caused issues.

I suggest these things considering coil pack, module, plugs and wires have all been ruled out.

Good luck!

Rick

Thanks for the reply... I put a "better looking" interrupter ring on the cam sensor, the orignal didn't look as "nice"..a little corroded. I did that a week or two ago... I didn't adjust the cam sensor, only the new ring. But since i had my hand in there, i'll look again and inspect...

The weird thing is that the miss/stumble seems to go away under load and starting is not an issue when everything is warmed up...

I haven't pulled the plugs yet, but if it was a fouled plug or wire, I would expect it to be worse under load...

Thanks...
Nate

my bad...i was going to check out the crank sensor too...I used the credit card trick to adjust that the other week as well...so i had my hands in there too, so it won't hurt to double check that either...

Thanks!

Found the problem!! the interrupter ring in the cam sensor was loose, the screw evidently wasn't as tight as i thought or it worked itself loose...

Thanks for the sounding board and troubleshooting ideas...

Nate
