Looking to buy this GN, questions for experts..
Looking at a 87 GN T-Top with 24k original miles. I looked at it tonight, clean paint, clean interior, rode tight. Has a replaced high speed dash that does read 24k, but is there any real way to prove original miles? AC doesn't work, but he said it was an easy fix. When the car was warm it was doing rough/quick downshifts from 3-1. He said that was an easy fix and it was common. Is that true? He's asking 19k which is high in my opinoin. Looking for comments from the experts...
Thanks in advance. |

Is this the same car you're looking at in a different post?
87 GN Value? Both of you have no locations so no telling...

T-tops.. Pull the carpet up, and look.
That'll be the next thing he says: "Oh, t-tops leak a little, but that's an easy fix". NOT. There's a couple car fax type co's out there. I'd do both of them, B4 I even considered that car...[And, it wouldn't be at 19K] Downshifts from 3 to 1.. don't think that's an easy fix. Could end up w/ a $1500 repair. Same w/ the A/C.. Could be a grand to get that fixed. Walk away... |

Be VERY wary of any seller that talks about a problem being an "easy fix" 9 times out of 10 they're not and he/she knows it.
Or they would have fixed it. T-Tops are NEVER an easy fix, no matter what.

So the car goes from third gear to first gear as you are coming to a stop? Must make quite a kerchunk! I have three of these cars and none of mine ever did that. Seller definitely needs to get that fixed as a buyer would have no idea how much it would cost to fix that. I bought a car just like the one you are looking at, last year. Just turned 25k miles. Changed all fluids when I got it home, then heater core went out and had to change it too. A/C doesn't work, also needed a new accumulator on the powermaster. They go bad from sitting so make sure brake light doesn't come on. If tires are original then you will need to replace them. They should be Goodyear Eagle GT. Keep the originals as they are no longer made. Spark plug wires are numbered from the factory one through six, and coil pack should have a white sticker on it of the Buick bird if it is original. These are just some things to look for if car has low miles. Original spark plugs should have a green stripe on them, and I just learned that the original O2 sensor has a black wire, not purple. Hard top cars are more desirable (and bring more money) than t-tops, as they flex less at the track. But t-tops are cooler!
