Advise wanted on how to protect my car from theft.

What are some of the better ways to protect your car from theft?

Are there any alarm systems available that are worthy of consideration?

I've heard of a clam shell type device that locks around the steering column & ignition but I don't know the name of the product or company that produces it. Are they effective?

Are the Club type devices effective at all?

Thanks

Alarm with a distinctive sound-that way you’ll know when it’s your car.
And few cut offs-that nobody knows about-not your mechanic not your big mouth friends

The Stead-fast unit is nice! I have a column guard lock that I bought from Kirban performance, it's called Pro-gard collar lock, I think I paid $52.00 for it.

Cut offs and fuel pump disablers are cheap ways to keep her safe.

A $.10 fuse kept my car from getting stolen. They pushed it out of the driveway and pushed it 6 blocks, probed all the wires in the ratty 2 alarm system (disabled cuz it was on the fritz) and never got it started.

Alarm suggestion...

I think any alarm will work initially but as we all know a tow truck can snatch ur car in less than 10 seconds, so I suggest U have the ability to find ur car as soon as U realize the theft. There is a company that offers GPS tracking for ur car. I found this company in a quick search. Its only $120.00 a year for unlimited tracking. gps on sale; GPS, garmin, magellan, garmin gps, magellan gps, gps unit, gps system, gps tracking, vehicle tracking, gps receiver, gps for car, gps vehicle tracking, vehicle tracking system, navigation car, auto gps

There's a guy in TN that has a pet rattler he puts in his car when he's not driving it. May take a while but you always find out who took it. Seriously though, An ignition cut out that you hide is a great way and you can use an old floor mounted high beam switch put under the carpet. And yes the guy in TN really does have a rattler he leaves in his car. I know the idiot and I HATE snakes.

Steadfast collar

Has a good lock on it, removes from the steering wheel collar. Nice piece.

Anti-theft in the engine management software, somewhere.

Be selective where you leave it.

I have the Column-Lock, TWO functional alarms, which one has a remote that will page you up to 1/2 mile away if the alarm goes off. The theft deterrent in the chip, AND multiple kill switches. The ONLY way my car will be taken is by tow truck, and I dont leave my car out in the open without being able to visually see it. Paranoid, I know... But I know where my car is

Lojack if your local law enforcement honors it. Not all of them do.

Don't leave your car unattended in the hood, or ghetto. It'll wind up one of two ways:

Or cut up for parts.

I think many have talked about this before!!!!

There was a discuson on this before. I had put a battery cut off in mine, but it won't stop a flat bed. A good dao and a greta gun and real nosey neighboors really help as well. I had parked at a Wal Mart the other day to pick up some stuff for the lids and I came out to see some black guy had pulled right up behind my T and blocked it in!!! I walked right up to him and asked WTF He said it was is buddys car and it crapped out and a tow truck is coming to get it I said it was my car and he said prove it, so I pulled my keys out poped the trunk and pulled out my trusty old AK-47 , he can call the cops if he wants but I doubt it will happen. Boy I have never seen someone crap them selfs in fear and drive off that fast I thought it was his buddys car Losers tried to steal my car and I know what would have happen to it as well and that bothered me more then anything No matter what you do if they really want it they will get it. Two minutes later and I would have probably never seen my car again
