Oh no..Idled Car Too Long
Well, I came back from my trip from Montreal, and I started the car up, and went inside. I totally forgot about it, and it was running for 1.5 hours straight! Any downsides for my stupidity?!

At my company our work trucks idle 6-8 hours a day. Issues only come up when they suffer a lifetime of that kinda abuse.

Won't hurt anything except possible overheating if the fan failed as previously posted. Don't feel bad, everyone does dumb things on occassion. Example - last week put a sump pump in our pool to drain off all the extra water in it from a lot of rain, went in the house for dinner and forgot all about it. Woke up from a sound sleep realizing I left the pump on and found I drained half the pool.

Hi,
Just gas invovlved. The stock fan motors on our cars are really tough. I pulled one apart, and roller bearings front and rear and heavy axial brushes on a solid copper slip ring, the best Delco built. so, as long as the support systems work, the fan can run all day long with little chance of failure. I guess Montreal is a hopping town, huh?

Cat converter on it? Extended idle time w/ low gas volume thru it, could overheat it, and cause a failure.

My cooling system is all up to par, and I have a test pipe..Car was ruuning normal temps..
Yeah, Montreal was CRAZYYYY there...I was there for work, but I also went to the F1 event there..Seriously though, all the women there look like models and those Montrealers know how to party!I actually got a picture of some dudes driving in a GNX (or probably a clone) driving on thier main strip (among the 100's of lamborghinis and ferraris I saw there driving around)..I saw them coming a few blocks away while I was walking and made my brother take pics of them as they passed by..I wonder if its anybody on this board.. When I find the pics, ill post it up...

I never shut my police unit off for a whole 12 hour shift in the hot months down here. It would idle with A/C on during meal breaks, traffic accidents, scene investigations, etc...
Just burned gas. It was too hot to kill the car with no A/C running. ![]()

Hi,
I hear you officer. As a resident of Houston, who works outside most of the day, it is a life saver to keep a little cool in your life.My water chiller is my best buddy.Nothing like 95 degrees and 95% humidity to make a believer out of you!

When my son was young, I took him to the circus. About 10 minutes into the show, he sat on my lap and I realized my keys were missing. I went to security and told them I thought I locked the keys in the car and they told me not to worry and enjoy the show. They had guys who would unlock the car for free after the show. 3 hours later I went to be sure the keys were in it before getting security and there they were in the igniiton with the car running. '85 Buick Lesabre. No problems afterward and only used about 1/8 tank of gas.
