maf

Here we go again with the maf question of the day. My mechanic did the tap test and it ran rough enough till it died. the second time nothing happened. My scanmaster shows 6-7 @ idle--850 rpm. I took it out and punched it to wot--255 on the button--it sceamed. Before I invest any more money on a new maf&translator should I try and clean the old one? I have some c.r.c. maf sensor/cleaner. Any suggestions would be welcom.

you could try and clean it with the CRC maf cleaner, but I would keep an eye on it and repeat the tap test again, it might be on it's way out slowly and be intermittent.

When mine recently went out, it bucked like a bronco for about 10 miles (max speed attainable = 50-55 mph), then mysteriously smoothed-out & ran fine for another 5 miles--until I got home. However, it would not idle very well--altho idle MAF flow reading typical @ 5-6.

As I had another one (it was actually in the trunk when original one was bucking), I switched it out & didn't look back. Defective one went into trash--didn't then know a rebuildable core had value...

I have since purchased "another spare"--but have not yet tested it (due to other issues...).
