Looking at Amsoil 5w-30 diesel (ZDDP)???
Hello
I Emailed the Amsoil tech line yesterday. I Told them I have a 400hp stock block GN mostly street driven. His answer was. "The HDD will work great in this application, the HDD has high levels of ZDDP and will protect the flat tappet cams. HDD Series 3000 Synthetic 5W-30 Diesel Oil 1266 zinc1379" Is anybody using this grade? any input would be helpfull. Thanks |

Rototella is not what it used to be. Amsoil is the only company I contacted that adressed our oil concerns.
Here is a link in V8Buick that has the pdf they sent me (would not attach here.) Amsoil ZDDP info - V8Buick.com Viscosity needs very from motor to motor. If you have over 11 psi per 1000 rpm at all temperatures then you have good oil pressure. My GN has great oil pressure with 5-30, the GSX is a little happier with 10-40.

True but I was reffering to Rotella or whatever oil WITH the ZDDP ADDITIVE.
Here in the south its hotter than a 4 balled tomcat in the summer so 5w30 IMO is to thin on a DD with A/c in bumper to bumper IMHO. I prefer a thicker oil.

If you're going with a 30wt, use their ACD straight 30 instead. It's classified as a straight 30 since it has no VIIs but could be classified as a 10/30 since it flows well when cold. In fact, the label says 30/10-30. It has tons of ZDDP, just under 1,400ppm if I remember. I use it in my daily driver TL year round.
