Methanol in gas by May 19th?

I was having a conversation with a owner of a station service and equipment business. He was telling me by May 19th all SE Michigan gas stations will have 10% Meth. in the gas. They were doing alot of repairs to stations with older tanks in the ground. Filteration was the biggest problem do to the cleaning effects of meth.

Is there Meth. being use in your gas were you live? How is the performance with the daily drivers? Will adding meth. dry out gaskets and seals like alcohol did back in the 70's? If so I'll be stocking up on MMO.

Thanks for any replys

im from MI and have not heard this. Sounds like a load of crap to me. gas already comes with 15% ethanol, which is not corrosive, ethanol is, why they would change to a lower concentration of a more corrosive and less easily found additive makes no sense

Ethanol is used up here from 5%-15% depending on the grade & octane. Never had problems from it that I know of???
I dont see why they would switch to Meth either? never heard about here?

I think he was mistaken. The government madates E10 not M10. It's almost everywhere, and soon will be. I can no longer find a station around here that doesn't have an E10 sticker on it.

Lightbulb

It's been in Premium gas up here in CT at least 5 years, no issues at all running it in a daily driver.

Premium Pump gas plus additional ethanol injection for KR reduction, 24psi. daily.

23/21 conservative timing.

+1 on the Eth vs Meth.

E10's been here for as long as I can remember filling up.

We just got E10 here last month. I haven't noticed any diff in my daily driver yet, but I've been told the gas mileage will go down noticibly.

Many people confuse ethanol with methanol. Even people that should know better.

About 2% decrease over fuel that didnt have the ethanol or MTBE. So in reality there is no noticeable change.

in MN, we've had 10% ethanol for almost 20 years now in all street gas except for some 93 octane that is supposed to only be used in lawn mowers and classic cars and what not.
oddly enough, i've never seen a gas tank rust away and fall off, and fuel filters don't get clogged with junk from the tanks like all the "experts" say will happen.

no, youre totally wrong. next time you goto the gas station read the pump, it should say somewhere on it that it contains ethanol up to a certain percentage, then get under and make sure your tank is still there

DFW use E10 during Ozone months and my mileage drops about 10% in my Neon: 32-33 mpg to 29 mpg. You will most definately notice it if you closely track your gas mileage.

I don't run the AC in the summer (my work is freezing so I use the 17 mile drive to thaw out) so I know the mileage difference purely from the fuel.

thats odd, because in my F-150, i can use straight e85 and my mileage difference is only about 15-20% less, using 75% more ethanol

You definately should NOT be suffering 10% loss of mileage just because of E10. It's been under some pretty tough studies as of late, and has been determined that a slim mix like E10 should have very little (1 - 3% or less) or no affect on mileage. Mixes of E20-E30 have actually shown mileage improvements. E85 on the other hand, the mileage figures go back into the negative column by as much as 10-20%.

Wow, I'm surprised the tree huggin hippies of Oregon didn't make a push for E10 in the gas before now.
