F-Body Radiator + Dual Spal Fans + Cutlass Radiator plate= THUMBS UP!

So I decided to go with the F-body radiator due to the weight savings and the price. I removed my AC and wanted to get a radiator plate without the brackets for the AC lines. In comes the Cutlass radiator top plate which bolts right on and has two bolts flush against the front so I still have something for mounting my spal fans. The Spal fans I got are the popular 11" dual fans. I put soft weather strip on the part of the fan touching the radiator to keep from any damage. After that is done, I went to Home depot and picked up strips of aluminum that are 3/4 inches wide. They are also very durable. And get this (where my happiness comes from), the holes in the spals line up perfectly with the two bolts on the front of the cutlass radiator plate. The metal strip will lay flat against the plate while fitting perfectly underneath the holes for the fan. I will be using screws with lock nuts to hold the fan onto the strip and will be using the bolts from the radiator plate to bolt the strip to the top. Have yet to get to the bottom but I am sure it will be as easy. I will keep all of you updated with pictures to follow once she is in!

Scott

I got it from this guy. Part number 30102052.
eBay Motors: DUAL 11" ELECTRIC FAN SHROUD 2800CFM SPAL 30102052 (item 300097622519 end time Apr-11-07 11:38:32 PDT)

I am not sure about the fit on a GN cover, but I can tell you I got my olds cutlass plate for a buck at the local u-pull junk yard. Yes I got the wiring from caspers.

Oh yeah, and I kid you not I got the fan a day after I paid. Now THATS fast shipping!

That's a great price! According to my records, I got my SPAL fans from a "group buy" here (sponsored by Dennis King) 05/21/2001 and they were $193.00. I've not ever seen a price lower than that until you posted that auction!

This is the same combo i was using on my S2 260ci combo . This car never got over 170 even on the transbrake and 2 step at the track. On my best pass listed below , again never got over 170 deg !!!

As a side note , the fans in the pic appear to be spals. But beware there are many knock off spals out there right now. Some can be spoted by the different fan motor backing plate. The others do not have as many vents as the originals.

Thanks for the input Louie. For the record, these are authentic SPALS!

Here is a pic of the Oil cooler I mounted in between the front mount and radiator (my AC is removed). I custom made brackets using the aluminum strips and "L" brackets from home depot. I used self tapping screws to hold the top of the cooler just under the top of the support. You can also notice where I mounted the tranny cooler underneath the support. See pic below.

As you can see in the next pic, I custom made a mount for the fans using three aluminum strips cut to size. You can see on the top of the fan the two little holes at the top of the strips. Those holes fit the two screws from the upper radiator plate. Across the bottom, I used some GM 10mm screw clips in the holes I drilled to match up with the holes on the bottom. The result is that if I ever needed to remove the fan assembly, I would only have to remove 4 10mm bolts. Even though I measured thoroughly, it appears the radiator support is a bit slanted on the bottom hence the pics. Nonetheless, its not an extreme amount of difference! Will post more pics when installed.
