Looking to buy a fire extinguisher: halon or halotron

I need a frie extinguisher for my 87 GN.

I know that production of halon stopped in 1994 bc of the ozone, yet halon is still being recycled.

Anybody know if halon or halotron is better and why?

thanks
frank

they both work the same way. if you found a halon extg and had to use it it would cost alot to get it recharged. i would recommend finding a fire extg company in the phone book. you will get a better extg that can be recharged and fixed if needed.they can also give you some prices on halon & halotron extgs.most of the one you can get at the home improvement stores are a one time use and don't come with a gage to know if it is still charged. also stay away from the ones with the plastic valves. i used to service fire equipment years ago but have been out of the field for 6 years.

a 5# co2 extg will weigh 12# total and it would have to be a small fire to work.any good size under the hood fire will never go out with a small co2 extg.
